No MIDI from Live to thru Phatties when polychained

Ok this is baffling, and I may be missing something here, but when driving my Little Phatty via Ableton Live MIDI notes, only the Little Phatty receives MIDI. The Little Phatty is chained to 2 Slim Phatties, and the polyphony works when playing the Little Phatty's keyboard. Is there something I'm missing? Why doesn't this work the same when controlled by Live's MIDI output?
