Is there a way to randomize the ratcheting of notes in a sequence? It'd be nice to be able to randomize this every time the sequence is played.
Is this possible?

Hi Toom,
RTCH CT (Ratchet Count) is a MOD Destination (pg. 51).
Using one of the MODs, set the
SOURCE to
Sample & Hold, then set the
MOD DEST to
PMG.
Now choose
RTCH CT as the programmable destination using the
CONTROLLERS MENU and turn up the
MOD AMT knob.

But is there a way to randomize which note in the sequence gets the ratchet every time the sequence is repeated?

Well... to my knowledge, there is no global Ratchet On/Off parameter; each Step has its own Ratchet On/Off switch.
But, when the Ratchet Count is 1, Ratchet is effectively Off.
So you could use a non-sync'd
Square Wave LFO to modulate
RTCHT CT.
Set
MOD DEST to
PGM: RTCHT CT and then set the
MOD AMT knob to achieve a specific Ratchet Count.
Now it will alternate between a Ratchet Count of 1 and x. Set the LFO to a non-sync'd Rate that's unrelated to the Arp speed and it will act pseudo randomly. Experiment with lots of LFO Rates to find a desired result.
{Don't forget to turn a bunch, or all, of the Steps' Ratchet Counts to ON, or little will happen.}
You could even use your other MOD's
LFO RATE destination to modulate the Rate of your Square Wave LFO.
That would create an even better pseudo-random effect.
But, I agree that a global
RATCHET ON/OFF destination would be a very useful future parameter to automatically embellish your Arps.

It works, thanks Dan!

I'm going to have to try this when I get home. Sounds like fun!

Good grief! What kind of mind does it take to think up something like this?

Thanks, DemonDan, this is great!

I'm still trying to figure out what Ratchet means. To the manual!

great trick, Dan. all kinds of applications for it.
