Individual Modules
Individual Modules
Moog,
To kick off the new modular forum, I can't help but ask if we can expect some individual offerings.
I'm in dire need of an inductor based 907a.

Re: Individual Modules
If you are in dire need why don't you buy one ??? They are readily available from both COTK (I have one of his and it's really nice sounding) and Synth-Werk.

Re: Individual Modules
The hard part is done; engineering and documenting the modules. The last part; forcasting sales, and purchasing hard to find parts may hold them back. Purchasing components enough to complete 55, 35, and 15 systems on the books & forecasts maybe the sticky part. There is more revenue associated with finishing a module to complete a System sales than a single module sale pure speculation, of course.

Re: Individual Modules
Gene said in one of the videos that there is "no limit to the amount" they can produce.

Isn't Moog supposed to say everything is "limited production" or something to that effect?
Re: Individual Modules
That's one for their marketing dep.
With the EMMS, they demonstrated that they can do whatever they want at any price point. Why not offer us some limited offerings of a few choice modules?
Bode Freq shifters would command a nice premium. The inductor based 907a is one of the Moog's secret weapons.
Sell us a simple 2 or three osc voice. Make a limited run of filter compliments. A lot of us dreamed about owning a Moog modular and built up our systems with other manufacturers over the last decade or so. Give us a chance to get some Moog love in there. Hell, even some blank Moog panels would be nice.
Don't just limit what excellent work is being done to only those able to cough up the $10k entry fee.
Come on, Mr. Adams! Hook us up (no pun intended)!

Re: Individual Modules
Would they go the same route as all the new releases 15,35.55, EM as far as every module being hand made and soldered? Or will they use SMT manufacturing like all modern Moog synths?
Re: Individual Modules
I'm not interested in anything but original spec.

Can I ask why that is?EricK wrote:I'm not interested in anything but original spec.
Re: Individual Modules
Well, the modules are already designed and proven. No logical reason to change them (with some exceptions such as Alphas in lieu of Allen-Bradleys, etc).
The sound and build quality of the originals stand on their own merits.

Some customers want the original sound.latigid on wrote:Can I ask why that is?EricK wrote:I'm not interested in anything but original spec.
A good example is the VCA. The original was not high fidelity and actually imparted some distortion of its own. These were designed before high fidelity VCAs were available. The 902 VCA uses discrete components which are still available. Moog maintained a faithful recreation of the original. Clones may use a modern VCA for convenience (fewer parts and automated insertion) but will ultimately miss out on an important ingredient to the sound.
It is one thing for look-a-like modules, it is a whole 'nother thing whether it sounds alike.

Re: Individual Modules
I hope they offer individual modules at some point. I put my name on a list at Moog as soon as I saw the Emerson modular. They just put me down as wanting the filter and possibly other modules if they become available.
I would love to have the original Moog filter in my modular as it has the most amazing resonance I have ever heard. I have heard most of the MU format clones and they all sound different to my ears. I told them price was no object and I would prepay for that filter. I am sure other modules contribute to the sound, but the filter contributes the most in my opinion.
I am ecstatic that Moog made the leap into recreating the magic as faithfully as possible to the original sound. I would also like to say that I am beyond happy to see the Modular Forum officially included on the list of sub forums!

Re: Individual Modules
I think we have the same modular taste Eric... I have both of those but yes, the COTK versions. But I prefer to get and use "clones" now rather than wait for hypothetical future releases.EricK wrote:Bode Freq shifters would command a nice premium.
