Hi!

Im new to the forum, but not new to Minimoogs. I have played these wonderfull instruments for 15 years now :)

I have some questions regarding the design of the wood cabinet, and I hope there are people out there who can shed some light on this matter.

I have to build a replica cabinet for my mini. Its made in April 1973, serial nr 2328. The original cabinet is not in good condition.
I am a qualified carpenter/furniture builder, and making a replica cabinet is a piece of cake, but I have discovered that there are at least two versions of the 1972-82 minis.
A friend of mine just bought a mint condition mini from december 74, and another friend of mine has one from aprox. 75. Upon inspection of these, I noticed these differences.

There are a few differences in cabinet size and shape, for instance, the side panels are 1/2" (13 mm) on my 73 mini, and on the 74 and 75's there are 5/8" (16 mm) side panels. The newer ones also seem to have a bit deeper cabinet, the top trim is a bit narrower, and the tongue and groove joints are a bit different as well. On mine theres a rounded corner where the sides meet the front or back pieces, but theres no such roundover on the later minis.

Also the side panels on my 73 are with veneer, and on the later ones they are made of solid wood.

Does anyone have any kind of information on this? When did they change the design of the cabinet?
