Hello all,

I am looking to add an electric guitar to my DJ rig, routed as follows: guitar>Sub 37>DJ mixer>audio interface

I want to play the guitar and the 37 alternately or together. So to do this I understand that I need to amplify the guitar signal going to the input of the 37. Would this be done with an ACTIVE DI box such as SansAmp Para Driver DI or H&K Tubeman?

I know this has been discussed a bit already, but I'm not very knowledgeable about guitars or engineering for that matter. I'd like to buy the right gear as well as, you know, not blow out an input. Thanks in advance for any help.

The active DI should work. I take low level signal and boost via various stomp boxes and that also works. Have you tried straight in with bad results? You won't hurt anything so experiment and have fun. I've saved a couple of presets just for external input needs.

I did try going straight in, but was too quiet. I would like to have the guitar be at about the level of the synth, so I can go back and forth without having to adjust the gain on the channel. I don't have any pedals other than a Cry Baby, although I plan on picking up a simple overdrive/fuzz or something, not sure if that would boost the signal enough.

That's a great idea about saving presets for this.

My normal set up is a contact mic in to an older Digitech Jamman. It has a input level as well as a loop level, so I'm able to find a good level to the S37. At the S37's output I run a handful of fx.

Following up on your suggestion, I also see that the MF Drive has boosting capabilities so I'm going to give that a serious look.

I don't own the Boost but own the Drive and I love it. It always on when I'm using my Karp.

Maybe get a guitar preamp?

If your guitar has high-output pick-ups the MF-Drive will likely add some clipping to the input signal, even at minimum gain. At full output, the Burstbuckers on my LP always clip the MF-Drive. But my single-coil Strat flows through the MF-Drive perfectly clean, and with an EP-2 pedal, I use it as a 'wah wah'.

SansAmp is the way I went. No regret

Can I just use an overdrive pedal instead of a preamp?
