Hi,
still working on the sequencer of the 37, suppose it will never end.
I'm trying to program a sequence in duo-mode with only one note at a step,
so I can play a melody to my own sequence. I'm following the instructions in the
manual, but the melody is always fixed to the clock of the arpeggiator.
Recently I listened to one of the reviews of the 37 by Nick Batt of Sonic state on you tube
and for the first 20 seconds it sounds like a free figure not fixed to the sequence.
Maybe I'm wrong, because the improvisation he's playing is very close to the rhythm
of the sequence. Anyway, is it possible to improvise free over a sequence and how
can it be programmed?

The oscs are not separate voices so they will always be locked to when either of the oscs is triggered (they will then both trigger - if you have another key held, if you have no key's held then the seq will trigger both oscs as normal if both are turned on, though you may not realise both are being played - when you press a key it simply hijacks the *pitch* of one of the oscs and allows you to place it elsewhere).

There is only 1 amp, filter etc per voice so both oscs must trigger this way (though can be different pitches) or the 2nd osc wouldn't have any VCA to actually be heard. If you think of when you hit another key in Duo mode as being akin to setting the freq of that osc (say with the osc 2 freq knob) but to a perfect semi tone selected by the key, that is basically what's happening and as in that case - both oscs must always sound at once (if both are on/active and played) you can't pick and choose polyphonically (which would mean each osc was in a separate complete voice with it's own VCA).

it's not a full polyphonic synth which is what you'd need to play a completely free running melody over the top of a sequenced line on the step sequencer.
