trigger envelopes?

Hi guys,
seems my rackmounts envelopes arent triggering each time a midi note is received (i want it the opposite of legato mode that you get on other monosynths). i changed trigger mode to MULTI which i thought would do the job but not the case; am i missing something basic? i got it in real panel param to fashion a new sound. thanks!!
