How much would you pay for a nice Source?

OK, I've been offered an excellent source for £530 GBP. It will be checked out by a tech before I collect and should come with the original manual. Is this madness or should I snap it up?

Hi, Yeah cheers. That was my first question, the membrane issue, but like I said he's promised to check it out and I am collecting, so should be OK, but for how long? Any ideas about how often the membrane panels last ie do the need replacing every year or so (depends on use I suppose) and what about the internal memory battery, is it prone to leaks like a polysix?

Cheers guys

Ive had my source 10 years, and the membrane is still perfect. Thats after 25 years use,2 world tours and lots of bashing it about on smaller gigs, and its still going great. Never had a problem with the internal battery. Its even had a pint of lager spilled into over it and it still worked!

Very tough machines.

i've been looking for a source for a while. they've been getting very expensive.

the average ebay price has been around $850 over the last 6 months or so. many go for over $1000 (one sold for $1400 recently), and even with questionable electronic condition and poor cosmetics, they'll still fetch $750.

i just bought one for $950, which is a bit more than i wanted to pay, but i bought it locally and was able to check it out first to make sure it was in good shape (and the thing is mint!).

for a board i know i'll have for a long time (and a board i suspect will sell for $2 grand in 5 years), i think it's a fair deal.

I bought mine on ebay last summer for about $675 US--that seemed to be the going price around that time. They certainly seem to be going up in price recently though.

I bought one back in the 80's for $50, knowing that it had some touch pad issues. Turned out the touch pad was shot and I ended up giving it away to an EE guy who was going to rack mount it. Shortly after that, membranes became available. :(

You can buy new touch pads on ebay for $80--probably a good insurance policy.

You will love this little synth. I only wish that I could make the sequencer and the S&H work in midi sync with some of my other stuff. There are some retro fit modifications out there that will make the Sequencer work with MIDI, but it sacrifices the S&H (either that or the other way around--I can't remember).

You're thinking the Encore Electronics MIDI retrofit. I have one in my Source. It sacrifices the sequencer not S&H.

Yup! That is the one MC. You are right on top of things, as usual.
