Sub37: Keyboard disabled with Midi Sync?

I'm using the sub37 as a keyboard controller for itself and a blofeld desktop (cause wavetables as a 3rd oscillator through the sub37 equals

I'm using my eventide space as a clock source to try to sync the LFOs, but whenever I turn the sync on in the Arp section the keyboard becomes unresponsive to itself and also stops the midi key output. The LEDs all change rates on the sub37 when I adjust the tempo on the space, though, so its receiving everything OK. I read in another thread that the Arp/Seq won't activate unless it receives a Midi Start message, but is keyboard control disabled until it receives a start message? This will all become moot when the firmware is update so the sub37 can output midi clock, but looking for a work around in the meantime...
