Minitaur as a Cv -> MIDI convertor, Subphatty as well?

Has anyone had extensive use of the Minitaur as a CV to MIDI convertor? My set up is largely modular, but I was thinking of adding either a Minitaur or a SubPhatty, and the concept of being able to convert CVs generated from say, a modular sequencer to MIDI is going to be what seals the deal. So, wondering if anyone is doing this with any success, and I am also wondering if that is an ability the SubPhatty has as well.

Cheers!

Hi,

It's not possible, Minitaur has no CV or MIDI outputs (except the USB connection), only inputs.

Hi DemonDan,

Sorry, but problem is the same in that way, your signal can go IN the Minitaur (CV or MIDI) but not OUT (except USB).

Nolongerhuman,

If your setup is largely modular, you can easily add a Minitaur which can be CV controlled.

I had to go back and search my emails with Amos about it.

Nolongerhuman was right, except that it's: CV -> MIDI via USB

CV TO MIDI CONVERSION
Minitaur can now convert multiple channels of Control Voltage to MIDI! This allows you to take CV sources such as modular synths, a CP-251 Control Processor or a Moog Etherwave Pro Theremin, and translate the voltage into MIDI control for your plug-in effects, soft synths, or other MIDI gear.

All Minitaur sound parameters have an assigned MIDI CC number. When a parameter value changes, Minitaur sends out MIDI CC data over its USB MIDI connection. When one of the Controller Inputs is mapped to a non-default parameter, Minitaur will send out CC messages for that parameter in response to control voltage changes at the input.

In order to get optimal response from the CV to MIDI conversion, you will need to adjust the scale and range of the control voltage to stay within the range of 0 to +5 Volts, before applying voltage to the Controller Input.

WARNING: Do not apply a negative control voltage, or a CV greater than +5 Volts.

I agree, it's why i added "Except USB" in both my 2 posts ... even if i don't knew how it works exactly :)
Thanks for all these precisions.

Then the chain will be "CV gear OUT -> Minitaur (CV IN /MIDI via USB OUT) -> Computer -> MIDI interface -> MIDI gear" ?

These are no longer available but, if you could find a used one:

http://www.iconnectivity.com/iConnectMIDI

http://www.iconnectivity.com/iConnectMI ... ifications

These were unique in that you could use them as a substitute for a computer because they had the "flat" connector for USB.

You could, for example, connect little USB powered keyboards, sliders, knobs, pads, etc. that previously would only work with a computer. With this box you could convert their USB to 5-Pin MIDI.

I really wish they were still available. (I wonder if the MIDI Police impounded them for some reason?)

Thanks for the responses.

Ideally, I would like to use the SubPhatty in the same way it's illustrated to use the Minitaur via CV -> MIDI (USB MIDI or 5 pin makes no difference, USB is actually preferable)
Amos had a video done on the Minitaur page showing it performing CV to MIDI (via USB) to various parameters in Ableton live, the Minitaur Rev two demonstration video. I had some success with this while I was using a Minitaur, but I have decided the Sub fits me slightly better, so, mostly just curious since the interface seems largely the same, whether the Sub would have the same feature since it's not something I had seen advertised (yet).

I should have specified though, that USB MIDI is pretty much all that's used in my studio anymore. 8)

These boxes looks great :D
The 4+ features page indicate "Supports 8 additional MIDI devices via USB Host Port + Powered USB Hub" but not sure it's the same.
Also, it seems to need computer to work :(
Any others features are very interesting, I think about using the audio passThru with an iPad, for Animmog or Waldorf Nave.

Sorry Nolongerhuman for the off-subject :D
