MIDI setup in DAW: Sub 37 (LPX/AL9)

Now, while I may not be new to synths, I have only recently began using MIDI (for notation) and the Sub 37 would be my first hardware attempt.
I use Logic Pro X and Ableton Live 9.
Essentially what I'd like to do is figure out how to set up in two different ways (ideally within the same project):
1. To is have a track that sends MIDI data to the Sub 37, thereby causing it to record audio in separate track (and/or)
2. To have the Sub 37 capable of sending MIDI data to another track for notation/automation.
If anyone versed in either MIDI or one (or both) of these DAWs, your assistance would go infinitely appreciated.
Thanks in advance, 'foogers.
