Voyager Board Battery?

Post by Mr P » Mon Mar 24, 2014 4:39 pm

Hello All

I am new to the forum and do not yet own a Moog although I used to own a 'Source' back in the day!

I have a question. I recently saw someone on YouTube doing a show and tell tear-down of a Voyager and he pointed out a battery (3032) on one of the circuit boards within. This makes me ask, if I bought a Voyager, would I at some point in its life be forced to ship it back to Moog at great expense (I live in the UK) to have a £5.00 battery replaced, to keep it working properly?

I cannot find mention of said battery in any Moog literature or manuals so is it something no longer used? I only ask because I want to buy a Voyager but the battery thing is a worry.

Hope someone can shed some light.

Thanks
Dave

Hello Mr P,
don't worry - it's a rechargeable lithium battery.
The lithium batteries of a Memorymoog are not rechargeable but they still have 3.0 Volts after 32 years.
Have fun,
Rudi

I replaced the battery in my Memorymoog a couple of years ago. It's a 1982 build that was upgraded to MM+ and I bought it from the factory "fire sale" in 1985.

That would be 30 years on a BR3 battery - LONG time for one of those. The BR3 in the Source went about the same time too. Both were replaced with battery holder and tabbed BR3s, no more soldering batteries!!!

Many thanks for that Rudi. I am reassured :D

There's not much to see, really. 4 circuits boards. 1 PSU unit (left), 1 CPU board (middle), and the big one the analog board (right) where all the sound is generated.
The panel is a lot of potentiometers and switches. Oh, and the analog touch pad board, and display, in the middle of the panel.

For bichuelo:

Here's a link to a Moog Voyager teardown. Don't know if it's the one you're looking for, but anyway...

After wanting a Voyager for years, I finally made the necessary sacrifices to actually get my hands on one and midi it into my Hammond XK-5. I love it and have been enjoying probing it’s depths to the best of my limited abilities. After about a week of this fun, the Voyager has started dropping patches, is acting a little funny, and the volumes seem to be mismatched. It has been suggested that this could be a battery problem so I was just checking in to see what you all think. I could solder a new battery in, are there any precautions for working on the Voyager?
