minitaur usb 'class compliant'?

High all,

I was wondering if the minitaur is considered 'class compliant' i.e.:

should I theoretically be able to plug an ipad running a minitaur editor directly into the minitaur's usb port?

I tried it, but it seems kind of shaky as I get no bidirectional MIDI from the minitaur even though it recognized and selected as MIDI in, in the ipad controller software.

I definitely *don't* want to experiment any further if this is not actually supported....

many thanks

Hello,

It's not possible, MT's USB port is not an host.
In order to use your MT directly with your iPad you need to use a core MIDI device (iRig MIDI for example)

Hi,
thanks for the reply...

Isn't the iPad the host?

How are you connecting to the iPad -
Apple's Camera Connector kit adapter?
If so, are you using an APPLE CCK adapter, or third party?
(I have heard of some issues with third-party CCK adapters).

Also, it could be an issue with the particular app you're using.
You might want to try some of the generic iOS MIDI utilities (like "MIDI Monitor) to verify that the Minituar receives & sends MIDI.

FWIW, my Minitaur works fine with MIDI Designer and an iOS MIDI interface.

I'm using a generic CCK (not apple)...
I'll try the suggestion about the midi monitor...

@ Randy just to get it straight, your setup is ipad (MIDI designer)>cck>usb cable>minitaur usb?

much thanks

I'm actually using a MIDI interface with all my iPAD to Moog gear connections.
So far, everthing works fine when using my Alesis iO Dock or iConnect MIDI iOS interface.
Both use MIDI DIN for connectivity ~
I've never tried the direct iPAD >CCK>Minitaur USB hookup, but I might give that a try over the weekend, just to see if I can get it to work.

You might try putting a powered USB hub between the Minituar USB connection and the iPad CCK.
I've seen that make a difference with some USB audio interfaces and keyboard controllers...
