Does it take a technical genius (which I am not!) to install the optional blue backlit wheels? I'm interested in getting them but don't want to kill my Moog in the process. Help...

Simple answer:
no genius needed. But you may have to readjust the pitchbend center like described in on of the OS 2.x upgrade manuals.

The lefthand controller is a real plug'n'play to install hardware wise (I assume the optional blue backlit wheels is the full left hand controller panel, little board and the wheels. All preassembled).

If one need to desolder the wheels from the old lefthand unit to the new one, then you should know how to solder on a unit you would like to use again

Rather than replace the whole unit, can't you go in and justremove the lamps?

... and solder them pnto the little PCB board under the lefthand section of the installed left hand section? Sure possible. But if one would like install the optional blue backlit wheels, why desolder them on the new board and solder them onto the "old" one? Then one could do the blue backlit modification without buying the option at Moog.

Maybe also build a second Moog from parts bought

I mean, if you don't like the blue lights, then remove them (the lamps). Wouldn't that be cheaper and easier than buying a whole new wheel set?

Isn't this thread about _installing_ the blue light option?

Man, I need to get more sleep!

I think I'm getting this mixed up with the other thread that is regarding LEDs being too bright.

Sorry.
