Voyager XL Glide

Hey,
I've just taken delivery of a Voyager XL and am a bit confused about the glide switch. Currently no matter what key/trigger/glide combination i try, nor whatever combo of glide switch and glide rate amount, gives me the portamento effect i'm expecting. Legato is fine, but hitting 2 notes legato at opposite ends of the keyboard still yields an immediate switch to the 2nd note even at the highest glide rate. When I patch the keyboard cv through the lag generator and onto the osc pitch i get the behaviour i'd expect, but it seems wrong that that would be the only way to do it - why have a glide switch?
Any help much appreciated!
