looks like its a ground come away under the Pot, it has come off.. funny but some pots seem to have there ground on the outside.. you can see it and some its on the underside..

I would put pic;s up to help but I don't seem to be able to upload anything . just get an over the limit window ?

Edit:For some reason I had missed your second post telling us that everything was fixed, so I deleted the long reply suggesting things to check that was here previously.

(BTW, you can deleted your post in another thread (where you only wrote that you made a mistake in posting in the wrong place) by editing that message and clicking the "X" on the top right. You have to do this before someone has replied to that message. After a reply by someone, the "X" option wil not be available anymore. Just so you know.)

To upload pics, you have to upload them first on some photo hosting site (Flickr, Photobucket, ImageShack, or some others) and incude the link to them here in between Img brackets (by clicking the Img button before pasting the link).

That pin IS the pot's wiper, not a ground.
On trims without that pin, the entire case is the same as the wiper connection.
But there's no ground to that trim pot either directly nor implied.

From all I can tell, you had an intermittent problem. (that pin should have been soldered to the trimmer's case.)
If the tech charged you and didn't fix it, you should ask for a refund or credit.
It appears that you ended up fixing it yourself.
Glad you got it sorted out though. :)

Thanks the the info, not sure why I said "ground" I guess because it made I hum when you touch the trim pot. I checked the the arm leg of the pot beeped when testing resistance on my meter and all did exept this one , with the loss leg connected to the case this fixed the problem .. I also noticed that some have the connected on the outside (you can see solder on the case) so I did it like that (easier to test for dry joint)

The tech is a mate no charge, well maybe he own mŷ a bottle or two of wine.. But he found the bad pot just not that it was a broken connector on the underside , we put it down to a dirty pot to start with and switch cleaner and re soldering the legs did seem to fix it
