To take full advantage of your phatty, I would suggest an audio interface. That way you can record the sounds your phatty makes. Many audio interfaces ship with audio and midi recording software, so you can control software with your phatty, in addition to tracking the phatty's audio signal. You don't exactly need a midi interface, because the LP has USB/midi capabilities.

You can also try Reaper for free (for a pretty long time, If I recall correctly) which is a pretty fully featured audio/midi DAW.

You can nab an audio interface for just about any budget these days. Enjoy!

also maybe LESS CAPSLOCK BECAUSE CAPSLOCK LOOKS RUDE TO SOME PEOPLE.

You can use your Phatty's USB cable for MIDI. This means controlling software synths for most people. If you want to record the sounds your phatty makes, you have to have an audio interface.

... and, if you haven't done it yet, you REALLY need to download the LP owners manual from the Moog website and dig in!!

Also, the following site has a lot of good information that distinguishes between MIDI and AUDIO, and the type of equipment that is required to work with each:

http://tweakheadz.com/how-to-get-starte ... ng-studio/

Keep in mind that if you start recording on your computer, you'll probably need to go to the forums for the specific software you decide to use to address specific "how to" questions. All DAW software is definitely NOT made the same!!!

With few exceptions, you'll find the USB port on most music equipment is to send & receive MIDI only, not audio.
MIDI can do a lot of things, but audio generally requires a separate connection.

Most of the Moog gear, and larger keyboards, controllers, sound modules, etc. from other manufacturers, will have both USB and DIN ports configured for MIDI, which gives you different options for using your gear with, or without, a computer in the mix.

I have heard of some people using the built-in "audio in" (microphone?) jack on a MAC or PC to record the audio from keyboards, mixers, etc., but in general you'll have MUCH better quality if you use a separate audio interface, whether it's separate external interface or dedicated card installed in your computer. The external audio interfaces generally WILL connect to your computer over USB.

I'm not sure where you're from, but I strongly recommend you visit a local shop that sells computer-based recording equipment (like Guitar Center or similar shops in the US) and take the time to learn about different software and hardware options to use with your computer.

It sounds like you need some direction with both your Moog LP (which folks here can help you with), as well as a lot of tutoring on using your computer for recording music ~ for THAT one, you really need some hands-on help, and this probably isn't the best place for assistance.

Remember, you'll need to learn about both SOFTWARE and HARDWARE that is suitable for recording with your particular computer.

BTW -
Referring to some of your other threads, you really need to touch base on the forums that make the software, like Arturia; even though they have the "Moog" name attached to the software, they actually are NOT Moog software.

The only software instruments currently made by Moog are the Animoog and Filtatron apps made for iOS devices.

You have much to learn, so give it time ~ it should be a fun ride if you give it a chance! :)
