I do not know much about CV. Pretty much nothing at all. But I have read on the Moog Music website that you can use a VX-351 CV Expander and/or CP-251 Control Processor to make a Minimoog Voyager capable of modular type stuff.

I also am not familiar with modular synthesis all that well. I use a Microkorg (eeep?) and its virtual patch, but I doubt that is actually close to real modular synthesis.

If I were to get a Minimoog Voyager and the VX-351 and the CP-251, what would I be able to do? Would it be useless or fun?

i would suggest getting the Voyager first. That or a Moogerfooger. Then when you get bored, go out and grab one of the CV boxes. They simply allow you to manipulate and control and shape more sound parameters with other sound parameters, ie using the pitch of the keyboard to alter the panning on the voyager plus the mix on your Ring Modulator plus the LFO on your Phaser, etc. all in one motion.... and so on "ad infinitum"(nobody quote me!!!)

I've had my Voyager a year now and a MF Ring Mod for 8 months. After 6 months w/ the Voyager I bought the VX351. And it has opened some interesting doors, however, I have a feeling that having the CP251 as well will provide an even more exponential increase in interesting possibilities...but I chose to get the Phaser this time around... I'm a phaser junkie, what can I say??? I'm on a quest for the perfect one.

I say take it slow, get what you need when you need it! Keep things simple in the beginning, have fun with all the features the Voyager offers just in itself... but while it IS a complete instrument on its own, the accessories wonderfully adorn it with incredible sonic ornamentation, unthought-of influences and dimensions!

It's now, for me at least, just an issue of saving money (for school and a voyager).

Keeping it simple does seem like a good idea for a, soon-to-be, moogie like me.

Are there any online references out there that would help explain to me how this patching stuff works? How CV gates work and all?

Is there anyway to pick up a Voyager cheaper than usual?
