Hmm. I'm new to posting on this forum, but I've been reading it for the past week.

I've found myself, lately, wanting to get some sort of analog synthesizer.

The Moog Minimoog Voyager seems to be what I want, even though it is rather expensive. It is pure analog and is reliable, being made and stocked at this date in time.

But, what about this Roland MKS-80? I've read, around, that it is pretty much a rack-mounted Roland Jupiter machine. If I were to get an MKS-80, I would definitely get the programmer that goes with it.

I'm just curious what you guys think of this synth.

I just want an analog synth that has character and is fun to play. I used to have a Sequential Circuits Multi-Trak....

This *is* a Moog forum, so I'll keep my comments brief about Rolands.

First, the MKS80 sounds and operates very different from a Jupiter 8.
Only the architecture is similar. Under the hood, there are different parts and the user interface is also different.
Worse, there are two basic revs of the MKS80, which can sound different from each other, but to a less degree than the differences between a Jupiter and MKS80.

The programmer can definitely help, but be warned that these are now very old and many of them now have rubberized slider covering material that has gotten hard, can crack into small pieces and fall into the sliders themselves.

I have a Sequential Circuits multitrack. I love the "Stack" mode, but I may sell it soon, as I have to many keyboards....................
Another cool synth is the Korg EX8000. Analog/Digital also with a stack or mono mode......... or Korg EX800. Same as the Poly 800 but in a table top or rack type box, but my Minimoog AE Rules!!!
