I read somewhere that the Memorymoog was like having 6 minimoog's in 1 syth. If I can find a used one, should I go for it? Or just go with the Voyager.

While Memorymoogs sound great, they do not have a very good record for reliability. I had one since 1986 and I was under the hood too many times. And it is getting harder to find a tech who will repair them.

My Andromeda replaced the MM and I don't miss the repair bills.

In the year I had the Voyager it has been trouble free.

If you want a monophonic, go for the Voyager.

The basic Memorymoog and Memorymoog+ have a very bad reputation caused by their floating/drifting oscillators problem. The sound and features are great but the oscillators are very unreliable.

However - I own a L.A.M.M. Memorymoog (L.A.M.M. = Lintronics Advanced Memorymoog Modification) serviced by Rudi Linhard and it's an awesome and very reliable synth. The Lintronics modification contains some major improvements like full MIDI implementation (yes: full !!), extra outputs, filter input, and last but not least complete stability of the oscillators.

I have a LAMM too and has been very reliable and stable. It is well worth the
money to buy a used MM and have the Lintronics upgrade. At least until Bob releases a new version of the MM.

I have both a Memorymoog (LAMM) and a voyager. and I guess if you want a memorymoog you need to get it LAMM updated and it also comes down to wether you want a polyphonic or monophonic synthesizer. Both are great but I have to say it is a little more punch in the voyager but the Memorymoog also has alot of modulation posibilities and with the LAMM update full midi and and more extra features like stereo outs external audio in. And if you want to use the memorymoog as a monophonic synthesizer there are lots and lots of options to get a really fat sound, since it has 6 moogfilters and 18 curtis oscillators. But the Voyager is just an amazing synthesizer that sounds exactly as a synthesizer should sound like it has even more modulation facilities and it has 3 moog oscillators and you can patch it both by CV and with MIDI and it is brand new. It is a very hard choice I know, thats why I have both

I agree with Puppets, I too have both: a LAMM Memorymoog and a Voyager (plus a Mini and a Modular 2C) both sound great but in some cases I prefer the "punch" of 18 oscillators at unison of the Memorymoog: it is a fantastic experience!
The only think I don't like in Memorymoog is the keyboard: it is too light and "cheap" for such a great and expensive Synth.
I prefer the old Pratt&Read keyboard of the Mini and Modular: with new bushings they are perfect, with the right feel, and they let you "fly" on the keys.

When you say it I actually have to agree about the keyboard on the memorymoog, it is a bit to loose and light. But I have to say that the keyboard on the voyager is even better than on the model D. firm keys
and heavier. I can't compare with a modular, never tried one

What kind of voyager do you have? the signature or performer?

My Voyager is a Signature edition SN 363, and yours?
Did you change your Mini keyboard bushings with new ones? The feeling increase dramatically, it is like playing a brand new keyboard and, in my opinion, it is even better than Voyager keyboard (yust a little bit heavier, and this si not bad).

Mine is a performer with serial 1819. No I did not have new bussings on the model D. But I don't have it anymore, sold it to a friend of mine. It was a real buty. It's on the lord of the minimoog site serial 1737.

There are things that must keep! one of them is the Minimoog!
Mine is Sn 5517 (obviously it's on the Lord too) and I have got it 12 years ago very cheap ( in euros about 500) by mail, answering to an advertisement of a shop in the far south of Italy, I live 1000 Km north from this shop, so I phoned them asking if it would turn power on, they answered yes and so I told them "ok send it to me".
Miracle, or great luck, it was perfect, it only needed some cleaning and tuning work, that I did by myself (it is not so difficult) and I don't think I'll sell it for any reason, I'll let it as heritage to my son!

yeah, I know what you mean. But I had it for 8 years and I wanted to get something else. Now I have the Memorymoog (LAMM) and a Voyager. ofcourse I have always compared all other synths I've owned with the mini but it lacked some features I wanted so I sold it and frankly I haven't regretted it. I really like the new mini, and it still has a soul (being handmade) it's a real moog synthesizer built by Bob Moog and I finally got to buy a brand new moog in a box and it really sounds fantastic!!! and since I sold the model D to my friend I can always try it whenever I want to But I guess nothing beats 3 moog oscillators with a moog filter, anything else sounds thin in comparison. I'm glad to hear that you don't want to part with yours.

It is one of the reasons why I bought the Voyager: a brand new Moog in its original box .
I owned lots of synths and in my home there has been a continuos turnover of keyboards, the only keyboards that survived to this turnover are the Moogs: they are the story and the "voice" of synths and I think their sound is unbeateble.
Of course the Voyager project is more recent, so it has many more features than the Mini, but I think Lamm MM has a better Midi implementation, don't you agree?

Yeah, LAMM has better midi implementation. But Rudi (Lintronics) is also doing the midi for the voyager so I guees all features on the LAMM will be implemented on the Voyager + probably some new too I noticed though that they have diffrent CC's cutoff on voyager has cc19 and cc32 on the LAMM and so on... he he so I hope that the voyager will start sending knob movements soon.
I've also had alot of diffrent synths over the years but only have the moogs left besides my Pro~One of course I've had that for almost 12 years now and that's a keeper Do you know when the new OS will arrive? I also hope they will fix the velocity on the voyager, it is abit too sensitive what do you think? What kind of sequencing do you use? only midi or CV/GATE too?
