bad hum with Minitaur

Love my Minitaur, but it has a serious ground(?) issue that goes away when I have it connected to the computer through the usb cable. This is a problem becauser I want to be able to use it with the DIN midi only for gigs, but the hum is huge. Anyone else encounter this, and is there a workaround? Thanks -George

I have the opposite: I'm hearing a hum when the minitaur is connected to my Mac by USB. It stops when I disconnect USB. The keyboard is connected by the midi din connection. Other than the hum, I love the minitaur.

The USB specs were done without keeping audio and ground loops in mind. The MIDI specs were always suing optical isolated connections. So no ground loop is possible there by default. USB connects the shield of the cable to ground on both ends. And this is the bad part here. A ground free USB connection is all it takes. This can be done by using special adapters with passive or with active (read: wall wart needed) dongle like USB devices in between the connection.
I think (not 100% sure) that doing a ground free socket on the Minitaur (this would help), would be against the USB specs. Many other synth companies of USB equipped synths have the very same problem.

i conected my mt now direct on one of my usb ports on my imac and the hum is gone away. so i think if you have noises for eg on an hub, try one of the direct ports of your pc or mac. hope this helps.
