Why am I seeing so many hardware issue posts?

I'm so close to my goal of having a Voyager...but lately my browsing the forum has been yielding a lot of posts by people with hardware issues. Is quality slipping or is it a case where the problem cases are (obviously) the vocal ones?
I mean, most of the problem posts don't say how they're using the voyager...maybe they're all using it on the road? Beating the hell out of it? I'd be more worried if it's just up and dying under studio use.
Someone allay my fears. This is a lot of money to shell out, and I'm hesitant to invest in it if the risk is high that a year from now something is going to burn out.

I don't think there is to much to worry about, there would be tens of thousands of voyages built and you might see a couple of posts here and there regarding problems, it is a little disheartening as you hope yours dose not break down
I have had several different high end brands / makes / manufacturers all fail within the first year of owning them.

Yes, don't worry about it. It's been ten years that Moog Music has been producing Voyagers, and I don't know exactly how many thousands of them. So there's bound to be one or two defective popping up here and there. Anyway when bought new it carries a warranty, and even after that, Moog Music support is top notch.
Instruments from other companies also have problems sometimes. Just think of the flaky encoders on the Prophet 08 from Dave smith Instruments. Or the pesky defective capacitors on early Novation Nova laptop synth module that were causing intermittent random resets of the whole machine and memories. Just to mention those.
Every piece of complex electronic equipment can be subject to failure at one point or other. Just don't worry about it, and enjoy it (when you get it). You'll deal with problems, if you're unlucky enough to have some, when the time comes...
Don't loose any sleep over it.

I certainly wasn't going to let it keep me from purchasing, my moog-mania knows no bounds...but you folks have certainly made me feel less worried. Thanks for the responses!

There's a lot of Voyagers out there working like a charm, mine included. Only few of them with minor problems, and people without issues don't say a word

I had the same doubts for a little while before I got mine, and let me tell you I have been running this beautiful machine through its paces and she has yet to fail me in amy aspect. In most cases I find my self thinking "i wish there was a way to do _____..." (rtfm) "oh moog thought of that already! Thanks!"
Any issues that I have come across are my own stupid errors (forget to turn local control back on, forgetting to turn the midi router on/switch to the proper chanel, turning up the wrong chanel on the mixer... Are you sensing a pattern here lol)
Dont let peoples technical issues get you down for every one person dissatisfied there are hundreds more that could never part with their voyager. keep saving you won't regret it...I'm going to go give mine some love now actually

You only see threads about hardware issues because people with Voyagers that don't have any issues are not likely to start posting threads like "Everything works fine with my Voyager". If you do see one of those threads, it will most likely have responses like "who cares?", or "woop dee freakin doo", or in some cases the moderators will probably just delete it.

Exactly the point. [many] people come here becuase they are having problems.
Then there are the dozens of us that 'hang out' and are part of the community.
I picked up a $2000 Allen and Heath mixing desk last year and one of the channels was DOA. Granted it's not a $10,000 mixing board but still, it's a higher than consumer name brand and stuff happens.
But yes, also hoping you don't have any issues. You are going to love it.

I'd agree - it's been 5 years for my Voyager now and it works just fine

I'd like to add that posting about issues here likely gets people the help they need faster than customer service, because a lot of the time I suspect that it is operator malfunction and things can be sorted out when they happen after Moog's business hours.
A lot of us have had similar problems and recognize them immediately (like the key scanning board issue that was fixed) and can perhaps save you from having to ship your Voyager to the factory provided it is a simple issue with the OS. As a community we have OS back-ups and banks of presets and things of that nature that we can provide.
That is part of what makes this forum so great for Moog enthusiasts.

I've had an issue with my Phatty and with my Voyager... Both within the first year. In fact, the phatty issue was so benign (an intermittent LFO LED) that I probably wouldnt have worried about it, or hell, i probably would have tried to fix it myself, if it hadnt been under warranty. But, thats what warranties are for...
The only issue with it is that when i send it out, its a good 3-4 weeks before i get the instrument back... And that means "moog withdraw"...

Eeyup. Both my Taurus 3 and LP went back to the factory and I missed each one. But when they came back, they worked at 100%. The Taurus worked even better than it had before when it came back, and Moog fixed it for free with free shipping! So, they really stand behind their products.

I must admit I was a bit pissed at having 2 serious hardware faults in the 1st 2 years with my Old School, meaning it had to go back to be fixed. But the first one was done under warranty & I've had no issues since.
Hey, even with a primo instrument like a Voyager I guess these things happen. No point getting all our of shape about it. Id still recommend Moog instruments to anyone. I adore my VOS.
