I currently own and abuse the mf 101, 102, 103 and 104. I have been very interested in purchasing the CP251, and also in beginging to purchase some MOTM modules to tweak my synths out even more. Does anyone on this forum have any experience with this kind of setup? Does CV work between the different brands?
Ive also been a bit hesitant to get the CP251. I guess i kind of wonder how much it really can do for me? I also own an MS20 and a FR777 and would like to put it all together. Seems like the MS20 would be a nice fit in the modular mix with the CP. Has anyone out there been tweaking their setup in this manner, and wouldnt mind sharing a bit of their experiences?

The MS-20 has different Control Voltage standards than MOTM and Moog. I'm pretty sure Future Retro is V/Oct. like Moog and MOTM (IE Korg is the odd one out).

Yes! FR777 works nice together with moog-gear.
For the MS20 you need a converter....

so if i understand correctly, MOTM modules will work with my MF pedals? nice. CV kicks ass!

Don't forget www.synthesizers.com and Modcan B series. Not to mention the handful of brands that just need a small adapter between 1/8" and 1/4" to talk to the MFs. Then there's the banana plug brands...

Yes. They work great together.

I have the Voyager and 251+351 system I love them together. I had NO IDEA what CV was about until I got the Voyager. CV gives you so much more flow and feel next to MIDI sequenceing and patches. It almost seems like your synth is alive and breathing. That led me to the BLACET stuff.

Blacet rules they have some fun and interesting modules. Much more wild then the standard VCO, VCF, VCA, EG system of the past. Everyone who has a Voyager MUST get one of their Binary Zone event generator/sequencers. The Mini Wave is also a must once you get to know what it does. I just wanted to have a system built around the Voyager and the 1/8" jacks just were not happining. My friend had started a Synth Tech(MOTM) system and I was sold.

MOTM is solid and roadworthy. The VCO's just don't drift and sound incredible. The 440 is one of the best sounding filters I've ever used, the 480 I make realistic reed, string patches that have fooled some good ears. It also makes awesome Kraut/Kraftwerk/Harmonia drumbeats when pink noise is run into it and controled with the Binary Zone.

I build all my modules from kits too. Pretty easy if you don't get too excited and rush the job. I only want to build them once so I take my time.

I got the Dark Stars last year when Blacet did the last run. You can still find them on ebay every now and then for around the same price that they sold for.

Also try and get the latest version that has CV control over the Attact and Decay, and the gate switch.

I am looking for a Dark Star as well, thought I had one last winter but the owner decided not to sell afterall. Do you know anything of Modcan? as they are located in Toronto I thought that I would drop by. I have heard many talk of Serge, Buchla, Moog (obviously), MOTM and Wiard just wondering about the Canadian co.
I am a newby to the modular scene other than owning a Mini D in the 70's. So it is back to square 1 for me, but looking fwd to the challenge.

The Modcan system is quite nice. Also the sister modular company to Modcan, Cyndustries.

Cyndustries is actually more of my style.

Anyways it's also a different format with the banana connectors(unless you go for the "B Series"). Also a bit more expensive, but lots of folks like the modules.

The CP-251 *does* work ok with the MS-20. The MS series main CV ins and outs are Hz/V, but the patch points are V/Oct. I've bought a CP when they first came out specifically to use with my MS-10, and it's a great way to expand a semi-modular like the MS-10/20 etc.

Pretty much everything is V/Oct these days, the only real difference is some are +/- 5v and others are 0-10v. With attenuators and the offset on the mixer of the CP, that's not really an issue, though.

I have 2 Dark Stars, a classic and a new and improved model. I'd consider trading the original model for another Blacet/Wiard/Metalbox module. If anyone's interested, contact me offlist:
