Hi I know a few people have asked about saving presets but Im still a little confused, could someone help me out with this?

am I right in saying that, you cant save a preset on the SP without overriding one of the factory ones?

so therefore In order for for the SP to save presets I need to use the little phatty Librarian?

does this work ok with the SP or is it geared at the LP? I realise they have the same engine, I just wanted to double check

do I need to connect up my SP to my soundcard with Midi Cables in order to use the Librarian or will it be ok to use it through USB straight in the back of the computer?

tbh the fact you have to spend more money in order to save your presets has left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, I see a moog as a luxury product which should come with everything you need

this makes me feel like I am on a budget airline & they are trying to take every last bit of cash off me at every opportunity on hidden "Extras"

ho hum

The Phattys come with memory for 100 presets. Instead of being empty, those 100 preset slots are filled with presets. Different Phatty models have different factory presets.

Because the preset memory is already full, you have to overwrite a preset slot in order to save a new preset.

You do not need an editor in order to store and recall presets. From the front panel, you can tell the Phatty to send one or all presets as SYSEX data, which you can capture with any program (such as MIDI-OX) and store wherever you want. Playing back those data will put the preset back.

As far as I know, you can use either the MIDI or USB connections.

To the OP:

I run Mac OSX 10.5.8 (PowerPC architecture) and installed the free application SysEx Librarian. This allows you to take system exclusive messages from your Phatty - I own the Slim - and save them/reload them to and from your computer.

Initially, I performed a SysEx dump to my Mac of the SP's factory presets, saving it as a ".syx" file. SysEx Librarian can then restore the full dump to your Phatty - akin to the factory reset function built into the instrument.

More interestingly, I can also elect to save just the presets ("dump" saves everything, globals etc.) or just a particular preset. Once could save off just one factory preset, modify it extensively in the Phatty, save the custom preset - overwriting the original - and later restore it. Or, create patches to your hearts content and save the whole lot for later use.

I did this via the USB connection, and it worked flawlessly. The Phatty user manual has the instructions needed for the instrument; SysEx Librarian has online documentation for its use.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for your replies!

ive tried the sysex librarian, but ive found, if i do a bulk dump with all my presets, then I try to send them back to essentially restore factory presets, that all the preset names come up as just strange symbols & that the sounds arnt the same, its like its corrupt?

I've just tested Bulk Dump and All Presets sysex transfers working OK over here.
If you are getting garbled data, then it means there's a problem with your MIDI interface or drivers.
Usually it's a driver issue. Oftentimes when this happens, regular MIDI works OK and only SysEx is affected.

What make and model of device are you using to get MIDI between the Phatty and your computer?
If it's a third-party piece of hardware, go to the manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers for your OS, update/install, reboot and try again. If you're using the Phatty's built-in USB, go into the Preferences for SysEx Librarian and lower the Transmit Speed.

I am having hte same issue with SysEx Librarian ... My Slim phatty (FW 3.12) is connected using the usb cable, OS is mac os Mountain lion.

IF moog sells devices that can be updated / dumped via usb I believe they should be the one releasing the librarian software, and it should also work and be free. Moog products are not exactly cheap.

My problem here is that in 10 dumps i did NEVER had the same filesize, the content seems a little bit shifted and, of course the checksum never the same.

Because I am dumping this is nothing to do with the speed of SysEx Libraria, that never changes.

Please let me understand how to dump the presets stored on slim phatty, reset all the time is not really an option.

Thanks

Sorry for digging up the post, but I'm having the same problem. When I send the "All preset" sysex back to my Little Phatty, some of the presets at the end of the list are corrupted and phatty starts acting up, freezes until I do a factory reset. Same for factory banks (Stage/Tribute/White/Legacy). I use sysex librarian and Focusrite Saffire PRO 24 DSP on OSX 10.7.5.

I noticed that no matter what Transmit Speed I set up in SysEx Librarian, the playing back of the sysex file takes the same amount of time, even at 1% setting.

Have You found the solution?
