slim phatty logic 9 midi recording problems

Hi folks,
recently got a slim phatty and I ABSOLUTELY adore it, and really appreciate all the hard work and passion that was put into it! the new firmware update is awesome too..
Although I love the sound and architecture, I'm having real difficulties recording midi into Logic 9 (9.1.4) and playing it back properly. I'm using the new firmware v3.1 and the SP is connected with usb directly to a port on my Mac Pro. switching to midi cables didn't help, and anyway I don't have a spare midi port unfortunately.
this are my problems -
1. when I record midi automation for a knob, say the cutoff freq, I hear some really bizarre artifacts and unpleasant "stepping". it sounds like the midi is not processed properly or received properly, and the result sound of the parameter change is not "smooth". when I enable local control on the SP and just record it "live" to audio track, it sounds beautifully smooth.. so for now I have to do it this way, which is very limiting..
I tried disabling and enabling 14bit midi - it had no effect what so ever.. when I look at the midi data in Logic (on both cases) it looks to be at a "low" resolution, without a lot of points on the curves. but I hear those artifacts even when record is just enabled, and I'm playing live.
2. I get bad latency, when I record fast knob movements. like the data transfer can't "keep up" with the fast changes. this problem is much worse when in 14bit mode.
3. it appears that Logic actually recording on 2 separate midi CC. one of which looks to be the control change I recorded, and the other one looks like a bunch of random midi values. is this a normal behavior?
If anyone could help in anyway or educate me about it, It will be greatly appreciated!
thanks
Lenny
