slim phatty logic 9 midi recording problems

Hi folks,
recently got a slim phatty and I ABSOLUTELY adore it, and really appreciate all the hard work and passion that was put into it! the new firmware update is awesome too..
Although I love the sound and architecture, I'm having real difficulties recording midi into Logic 9 (9.1.4) and playing it back properly. I'm using the new firmware v3.1 and the SP is connected with usb directly to a port on my Mac Pro. switching to midi cables didn't help, and anyway I don't have a spare midi port unfortunately.
this are my problems -

1. when I record midi automation for a knob, say the cutoff freq, I hear some really bizarre artifacts and unpleasant "stepping". it sounds like the midi is not processed properly or received properly, and the result sound of the parameter change is not "smooth". when I enable local control on the SP and just record it "live" to audio track, it sounds beautifully smooth.. so for now I have to do it this way, which is very limiting..
I tried disabling and enabling 14bit midi - it had no effect what so ever.. when I look at the midi data in Logic (on both cases) it looks to be at a "low" resolution, without a lot of points on the curves. but I hear those artifacts even when record is just enabled, and I'm playing live.

2. I get bad latency, when I record fast knob movements. like the data transfer can't "keep up" with the fast changes. this problem is much worse when in 14bit mode.

3. it appears that Logic actually recording on 2 separate midi CC. one of which looks to be the control change I recorded, and the other one looks like a bunch of random midi values. is this a normal behavior?

If anyone could help in anyway or educate me about it, It will be greatly appreciated!
thanks
Lenny

hey Lenny,

Sorry I'm not gonna be able to help you... but if you could help me I'd be greatful. I'm also running Logic 9 - Phatty is connected directly to Mac Pro via USB. I also have an Akai MPK 49 connected directly to my Mac Pro via USB.
Now, I just bought the vst editor and I wanted to control the Phatty via the MPK into Logic. I see MIDI info sending from the MPK to the vst editor and I see MIDI info from the Phatty to the vst editor but I can't hear anything.

I'm not sure if I'm missing something... Do I need to connect a MIDI cable from the MPK OUT to the Phatty IN and connect 1/4" OUT from the Phatty to my soundcard?

If you can help,

Thanks!

I am having the same problems (Logic 9 user as well).
And automating and having smooth cut-off changes is very important to me as I record parts twice and pan them for stereo.
I wish Moog had put in some sort of slew limiter module to smoothen out MIDI stepping for important parameters such as cut-off frequency...I can easily smooth out MIDI stepping on the Doepfer modular by running the CV from the MIDI DAC through a slw limiter module and then have smooth automation of any parameter I want.
Were stepping is a problem, I just record parts in by tweaking the knob on my Slim Phatty and try to get it right then second time for stereo... sucks to have to compromise like this, but its the way things are.

Peace out.
