Hi Everyone,

I Have a minimoog (d-model) and a Kenton Pro-2000 and an S-trigger cable.
I want to send midi from my computer to my minimoog, but it's not working like i hoped for.

My first question, do i need a s-trigger cable, or can i also connect the kenton with jackcables only ?

If i connect the s-trigger the minimoog does play the midi notes BUT in the wrong pitch and it changes the pitch of the notes everytime i touch a note on the minimoog, so everything will be transposed ( the setting of the kenton; GATE SELECT: S-trig. ( do i need to change the selection to s-trig 5v pullup, or s-trig 15v pullup ?. I've tried this all, but i'm not sure is the s-trig kabel is working fine, so if someone can confirm one of these settings)

If i only connect the minimoog to the Kenton with jackcables, it does not play the midinotes
Do i need to select : GATE SELECT: gate 5v pulled or gate 15v pulled ?
But when the midi notes are sent to the minimoog, AND i press one of the keys, then i hear the minimoog playing the notes, if i change the key i'm playing, all notes get transposed.

In the Kenton i selected: VOLT/OCT SCALING, and i connected the GATE to the minimoogs LOUDNESS EXT and the CV to minimoogs OSCILLATOR INPUT.

I hope someone can help me out. I've been trying for days to solve this issue. I will be very gratefull !!

The Mini D wasn't designed to be fully controlled externally.
The jacks on top will usually only ADD to whatever the Moog's keyboard is putting out.
If you put in a CV from the Kenton, it will add to the CV of the keyboard and thus be transposed.
If you hit a key on the keyboard, you will produce a gate and therefore the Moog will ignore your external gate from the Kenton.
Additionally, the OSC CV input jack on top doesn't go through the Moog glide, nor appear on the orange filter tracking switches.
The loudness jack on top controls a 2nd VCA in series with the VCA controlled by the Mini's env generator too.
It was designed for a footpedal.
So unless there's a gate (or S-trig) already present (so the envelope generator fires), one won't hear anything using that jack either.

You either need to mod your Mini or disconnect the keyboard entirely and use a cable such as I sell at http://www.minimoogs.com/store/index.ph ... ducts_id=3

There just isn't any way to make a stock Minimoog D play 100% correctly from an external MIDI to CV converter.

Can you tell us the pinout of the mini's keyboard jack? Looks like 6 leads, Tip Sleeve gate and Tip Sleeve pitch CV? I was thinking of just using the pitch CV and making a custom connector, since I already have the cinch jones S-trig cable. Would that be the same as using your cable?

Pin 2 is CV in.
Pin 3 is Ground.
Pins 5 & 6 are tied together and used for Gate in.
(this is not an S-trig in, but a normal positive-going voltage gate in similar to Roland, Arp and Oberheims.)

Also transpose either your sequences or your Kenton because most synths treat 0 volts as a C, while Moogs treat 0 volts as an F.

Pardon my intrusion, but is it possible to set up some sort of toggle switch/device so that when/if I want to switch between using the keyboard and using midi, I don't have to physically open up the mini and switch the cables?

Yes. I didn't provide this as I was trying to keep costs down and just provide a quick solution for people that used MIDI more than their stock keyboard.
However, you'll have to find someone to wire such a thing up.
I could make one or mod yours, but doing a nice job takes time.
I fear it would cost too much for me to do (especially with shipping.)

You basically need a female 6 pin CJ connector (for your keyboard) and a DPDT toggle switch.
Wired correctly, the switch will alternate between the stock keyboard's gate and CV and the plugs used for your MIDI converter or sequencer.
I have these parts in stock, but they're easily available elsewhere too.

can the Minis s-trig cinch connector simply be replaced by a 1/4" female?
