A question for MC

MC,

You're an EE so I figure your the best person to ask. I have been looking for a hardware sequencer for my Voyager. I found a pretty cool synth called a Revolution from a manufacturer named Future Retro. Here's the link:

http://www.future-retro.com/REVOLUTION.html

My question is: Is the sequencer in the Revolution compatible with running the Voyager (CV and/or MIDI)?

Thanks!

MIDI, no question.

CV is 1v/oct so they are compatible.

However the gates are not compatible. Revolution gate output is +12v, Voyager gate input is +5v. I would not recommend a direct connection. If you have a CP251 you can use an attenuator to drop it to +5v. Or you can design a special patch cable with one plug wired as a voltage divider, it's only two resistors. There should be plenty of net references on voltage dividers, start with Google. That stuff is EE101 material.

+12v gate is a good design idea as some vintage analog synths (ARP) use a gate this hot - for lower gate levels it's a lot easier to attenuate it.

That Revolution has one hell of an interface

MC,

Thanks for the information. I do have the CP-251 so I'll keep it in mind.
