Hello,

I am just about to set sail into the world of modulars. Starting small, I wanted to run the audio out of the Voyager through the mixer out, process it with a filter, and then send it back through the same socket. This way it saves money on getting a VCA etc - in the short term at least! I sense this stuff is addictive.

This sort of thing can be more than a little confusing. I know Doepfer stuff uses minijacks, but I can't find an insert cable with minijacks on the end.

Any ideas how I can do this?

Go MU (DotCom) format and have 1/4" jacks and compatible levels and CV's.

Yeah. I'd also strongly recommend going the DotCom route, as a happy owner myself! If, however, you have your heart set on Doepfer, then I'd suggest visiting your nearest Radio Shack and stocking up on a few 1/4'' to mini jack (1/8"??) adaptors. Also... what sort of external filter did you have in mind??

Not sure really. I quite fancied getting an MS 20 filter, for something different, and perhaps a bitcrusher. I just wanted to go modular, starting small.

With the Dotcom stuff, you really need to go big straight off the bat. There doesn't seem to be a starter kit. Or gateway drug, as someone would call it!

There is no need to go big off the bat. Get a single rack frame (Holds 8 units wide and fits in std 19" rack) There is a wall wart power supply good for 8 modules. Then, look at the various MU suppliers. There is an MS20 filter in MU along with many other good filters. (VCS, Korg, State variable, ARP, Buchla, etc.) There is also a nice PolyMoog resonator out there.

I started a short time ago with a CP-251. I've got a 66 space MU, 2 CP's a VX-351 and 11 Foogers along with some Doepfer stuff now. It IS addicting!

There is no difference in theory if you go 5U or Eurorack except for the jack size. Plus, in Euro-format, everything is more compact (a plus or minus subjectively) and there is much more choice available.

The Korg Monotron has an MS20 filter in it. £50 in the UK. Takes an external signal.
