It's a sign of the times (and marketplace) when the MacBeth gets a (big big big) wow!!!!! and the Sub-Phatty gets unnoticed , almost.
I don't think the Sub-Phatty is unnoticed by any means. I've not heard it 'live' yet but most of the stuff I have heard and read about it has left me wanting one.
But I believe the MacBeth is a *totally* different instrument. One of the features that made me pre-order it over a year ago was that the three oscillators can be used independently, each has it's own CV in and output.... and of course the sound is out of this world !
So I don't think the times or marketplace come into it here. Two different instruments and posted on a Moog forum the MacBeth is obviously less known that the Sub-Phatty and may grab a bit of attention.

unfortunately Doepfer don't make these anymore
....over the past 5 days I have come to the realisation that they are reeking with a quality build
IMHO, if you ever see one for sale, and have the currency >> don't hesitate >> buy it!!!

My Sub-Phatty just got here today. My first Moog! And my first piece of hardware.
I can honestly say that Marc's videos really sealed the deal for me.
I couldn't be more happy!
Thank you Marc Doty for your great series of videos.

Ha not me I buy everything used...
Latest purchase...Tascam 688...8 track cassette portastudio. Why, when I have all kinds of great recording gear? Because it sounds bad, and sometimes sounding bad is good. That's why I also use a 388 all the time...the 688 is just more portable and cheaper to use...

I got started back in 1998 on a tascam porta 02. I think it was great, despite the hiss. Having nly 4 tracks to work with was still quite expressive. It is a lot easier than logic, and I think it's a bit more personal also. Maybe it's just a tactile thing.
My friend had the vintage rack mount 8 track but he messed up the tape speed motor in it getting all kinds of wacky psychedelic sounds.
Tascam was always better than fostex in my opinion.

I just found these walking the local hardware store. They seem to be exactly what i need even if I don't have a BBQ.

Tascam has always been Trashcan to me...but the 388s I have run pretty well and the 688 I thought would be amusing to record synths/drums to...then sample back...
