Heat is the enemy of electronics, not inrush current from power-on. Leave a synth on all day and heat will accumulate, how hot it gets depends on how well it was designed. The higher the junction temperature of electronic components, the shorter the life span. It is literally burn out over a slow period of time. I've heard the myth of leaving synths and gear powered on 24/7 more times than I care to admit.

With few exceptions (can you say ARP Omni?), power supplies are very well behaved when powered up. Even if there is something slightly out of regulation when the supply is turned on, it is usually over a short time period (in the milliseconds) and is not catastrophic to electronics.

Quote by Kevin Lightner:

Personally, I think a person should play the living bleep out of their synths and service them when they go bad.

:) Too funny.

Instruments were meant to be played, but I don't go along with keeping them on 24/7 either. Use them normally, play them, work the controls, and when you're finished, shut them off and COVER them, after they've cooled down.

There is a "potty mouth" filter running in this forum. It will replace swear words with "bleep", "forget", etc. I noticed it at least three months ago.

I didn't look twice at it; "playing the living bleep out of something" just sounds great, especially a synthesizer. I thought it was a joke... this is a moog forum.

So if I was to say "Moog better bleeping reissue the bleeping Taurus pedals before I bleeping bleep the fuckers the bleep up", it would be censored, right?

The seven words you can't say on television
  • sweet nothings
    rose petals
    orange
    choo-choo
    semprini
    gospel
    "ni!"
Carp, looks like they got those too.

Someone's going to get a kick in the bum over this.

This stuff really waters me off.

Here is why I like the Taurus pedals. All bass in this song is performed on the Moog Taurus... (this is one of those tunes we did live with 2 guitars, the bassist played the Taurus pedals for all bass, while playing rythym guitar) anyway check it out for that big beefy Taurus sound.

Incidently, Kevin Lightner is the guy who made these pedals playable... They were pretty messed up, before he worked on them-- they had been sitting for quite some time in a closet.

The best profanity filter I ever saw was on fark.com.

People were quoting lines from the movie Pulp Fiction, and one of the came out thusly:

"I'm gonna call a couple of hard, pipe-hitting attractive and successful African-Americans to go to work on the holmes here with a pair of pliers and a blowtorch!"

That cracked me right up.

crootnik:

Great song by the way. The pedals sound full, but the whole work sounds great. Nice vocals, interesting lyrics, good guitar work. Post most of your music when you get a chance. :!:

Hey thanks for the Link. I've been listening to each song and I'm impressed. I really like your material! Excellent variety of musical styles, not over produced, straight forward. It reminds me of how musically dormant I've been the last 10 years. I wish you guys success, keep at it, it's a tough business.

Cheers,
