you haven't heard the rentals until you've heard "please let that be you" thats a truely great song that exemplifies the moog.

I heard Gary's Gang today on the radio... there's a lot of MOOG sounding stuff going on in their song "Keep on Dancing"... especially the cool solo. check it out... the song is from 1978, so I'm guessing it's likely a MOOG.

Eduardo Parra from "LOS JAIVAS" Introduced the minimoog model D in '70s here in chile, He Played very simple sounds but also having a complex structure, mixing them with Andean instruments like quenas, tarcas, ocarinas, zampoñas, pan flutes, recordes, and many others wind instruments. They made Progressive Rock mixed with folclore. But just a few months ago his minimoog DIED, they where on stage playing and became to rain and that was the sad end. If you want to hear some examples, how did he used his minimoog mixed with wind instruments and other vintage syths like a Fender Rhodes Stagemark Piano II download,
"LA PODEROSA MUERTE" or "DANZAS" it has a cool dark minimoog solo.

i heard this spanish band before called moenia which uses a prodigy. they sounded pretty good.

have you people ever listen to lyrics that contain the word Minimoog??? LOL

Here's one from Gazebo (from the LP Gazebo, 1983). The track is called "Love In Your Eyes". And my... what a beautiful 80's disco it is.

And the lyrics go:

... a minimoog it's just all you need so bad...

Obviously he used a Minimoog not only in this track but in other as well.

Manfred Mann wasone of the first ones to start using Minimoog, and upon to this day about 25 records packed with Minimoog solos on each track.
MIke Vickers who became a modular synth guru for Beatles and Stones syudio experimenting was a member of Manfred Mann (the band called only) through the 60's where Manfred Mann(the person) was the first to experiment with Melltrons.

Manfred Mann's Earth Band is touring heavily in Europe and I just spent 20mins with him during a soundcheck discussing Voyger filter compared to Model D.

Manfred handed out the prize and played Minimoog during the event in 2002 when Dr Moog gor the Polar Music prize in Stockholm.

Manfred Mann's Earth Band is A MUST for you yongsters who came in on Moog wave Mark 2 in the mid/late ninities and simply doesn't know better.

Also Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson are icons of moog, just check out who is heading the Moog fest in NY.

I believe The Rentals used only an opus 3 and source (mmmmm the source)....at least on their first album....who cares about their second? And if you include The Rentals...you have to mention "That Dog". Also AIR ripped Moon Safari off with the help of a sweet Moog theremin....but their minimoog....mmmm minimoog.

The Rentals 2nd album got about 2 listens before i gave up on it, but then for some reason I randomly popped it in my car again one day and gave it another chance. Honestly, I really love it now. It's much slower, darker and not as fun as the first, but it's a great album from start to finish. I think it's one of those albums that you need to give about 5 listens to really get into it.

I don't know what made me think of this all of the sudden, but "Apollo Sunshine" from here in Boston use some moog... an Opus 3 I'm guessing. Not sure if they'd been mentioned in this thread yet, but they are good stuff. http://www.apollosunshine.com

Where some Moog Modulars came from:
Christopher Franke of Tangerine Dream bought his used IIIp from a Berlin studio that got it from Georg Harrison.
Edgar Froese's iiip was originally bought by Mike Jagger.
Klaus Schulze bought his IIIp 1975 used from Popul Vuh, alias Florian Fricke.

Schulze's Moog Modular is now located at Pete Namlok's studio.
Christopher's Moog went to Hans Zimmer's collection. Together with Peter Baumann's Project Electronic modified Moog IIIp.
I don't know what happened to Edgar Froese's Moog.

Kraftwerk used Minimoogs.
And the ex-Kraftwerk member Karl Bartos used a Mini on all his solo records. Including the one released last fall. And his rerecorded "tour de France" version from 1999.

I once saw a picture of Billy Joel in concert with a Mini in the background. But did he ever play it on any of his songs?

Many of you know the story about how Keith Emerson's modular Moog survived a rainstorm. To recap: It was at an outdoor concert in New Jersey. There was a sudden rainstorm, which soaked the Moog. (It came in too sudden for his "synth ninjas" to throw a tarp over it.) The next day, technicians took out all the boards, let them dry out, put it back together..... and it all worked!

Geddy Lee of Rush also used Taurus bass pedals.

The "Dream Weaver" himself, Gary Wright, used two Minis. One of them was modified to separate the keyboard from the electronics, so he could "go portable" with the keyboard and play those great horn-like solo lines.

Stereolab? I bought their Mars Audiac Quintet CD, the one that shows a HUGE modular synthesizer on the cover. Guess what - there's almost NO synthesizer on the whole album.

There are guitars,vocals, drums, bass, more vocals, more guitars, and some organ. Very plain organ. Why are they known as a synthesizer band? EVERY band from the 80's had more synth than this - even rock bands like Loverboy and Journey!!! I don't get it...
