Thanks for that insight.
I tend not to try out distorsions with synths because I fould it much less alive hat with guitars, as I play keys rather than sequence synths.
However, I remember I once obtained some kind of really cool creaking, creepy lead with a Germanium Pi and a VA synth...
I also have a vintage Rat here; I think I'll try to insert them again in my fx chain

A buddy of mine runs a synthesizer shop here in Minneapolis called Foxtone Music. He ordered a bunch of them when they came out and this is only the second unit he's gotten in. He knew I wanted one so he sent me a text when it came in. This thing is awesome...

I fought off the Auturia temptation and bought the Cluster flux instead, that little synth looked really cool to me especially for the price

Nice!
Yeah... I was on a waiting list for minibrute but after 3+ months of delays I opted out and got a Mopho instead...

I just bought this used for not a lot of money... to add to my aging DR-110.

Nice! Hey, if you're into drum machines, maybe you could direct me. I'm looking for a programmable drum machine that is very "lo-fi" in tone/texture. Like, not anything that sounds like real drums or traditional drum machines. Any ideas? I'd like to keep price low too. Monotribe would be the obvious answer, but NO MIDI??? WTF!!!

If you are recording and don't need anything saved, the stylophone beatbox is cheap and lo-fi. Build up loops, tapping fun. No midi either.

The most old-school: Casio SK-1 But no MIDI, not programmable, no anything esle than Old-Schoolness
In a different category, have you checked the Elektron MachineDrum? If you don't want the further options, some of the first versions can be found for not so expensive -nothing in common with the Alain's Boss though
The MD is quite flexible in terms of sound. You can make it sound very different ways. It's one of these beasts you can dig and find out tricks from for years. The sequencer is reaal cool too.
I would say its mains drawbacks are:
- 16th step resolution only
- no velocity onboard, but available through MIDI IIRC
But maybe it's an overshoot... plus it's not "old schol out of the box"...
