The reverb and room acoustics in the video are stronger than the effect.
Probably also better if plugged directly thru as opposed to using an effects send.

Re: Post your latest purchase!!
Actually, there is no effects send. I have the headphone out from the organ going into the chorus box, the out from chorus box going into the MX-41b passive mixer on channel 3, into channel 1 of my amp, which has the internal speaker off and external speaker on. The organ's output is extremely noisy, and I use 2000ohm headphones to kill the noise when playing with headphones. I believe the reverb is caused not by the room, but the noise on the Lowrey's output.Kevin Lightner wrote:

Re: Post your latest purchase!!
Some folks on the electric-piano forum (formerly the Fender Rhodes forum) told me that 700 bucks was a "moderately good deal" for a Wurlitzer.
THe music store initially quote me 700 for the Wurlitzer and a 1981 MkII Stage 73 Rhodes, but that Rhodes had over 55 corroded tines and tonebars, 5 dead pickups, plastic keys, etc. I rejected that one in favor of one they had in their truck for 3 weeks without climate control and no hardware. It was a 1980 MKII Suitcase 73 that needed repair and they eventually found the rested hardware for it. I offered them the same, since the keyboard tech swore to me that he didn't work on Rhodes and these were as-is prices. I think when they figured out that I wasn't going to let them pawn off the stage (boneyard caliber) the keyboard tech suddenly had a change of heart and wanted to repair it and tried to say that he wanted 1500 for the Rhodes (restored it's probably worth around 800+). He knew I wanted to restore it myself and he knew I wanted it pretty bad. The serial number on the harp was from the same week I was born. Janus preamp....it was an okay rhodes. They were selling them on consignment for a church.
So I got the Wurlitzer for 350 bucks plus tax. The legs alone are worth almost 200! It needs a litle TLC but Im thinking if I resold it after getting it worked on a bit, I might could sell it for around a grand. The preamp looks very clean though theres no sustain pedal. THe action needs work but I got a capstan wrench for it. I haven't had the chance to plug it up and see if it works yet but I do know the keys need recapping.
Really the value of those things depends on the condition, the demand, but I've seen them sell on ebay for as little as 450 to over 1300.

That's avery nice looking bass!
Voltor,
Great score!

EricK,
I remember reading your post on the other forum. That is a crazy good deal. The guy I'm talking to about a Wurly thinks he's gonna make a fortune on it since it is "vintage". I'm not sure we're going to find common ground.
My Rhodes is also from the week I was born.

yeah 350$'s great Eric- I paid 1100$ for mine! with the semi-recent improvements in elec piano emulations, I think there're better deals to be found now that some players are selling their "real" elec pianos and opting for easier-to-move-around digi varieties...

Re: Post your latest purchase!!
Thanks a lot guys.
I'm one of those who prefer going around with the lighter anlterntive, which tend to be digital - Nord Electro not to mention it. However I'm slowly slipping toward the real stuff: Wurly and Hohner Clavinet/Pianet Duo would be great...

Re: Post your latest purchase!!
Well my Father pretty much gave me control of his Rhodes, it's a '71 MkI suitcase 73. I told him that the money that I was going to spend on the other Rhodes will go to restoring his instead.
My initial plan was to purchase the other Rhodes, and then restore it myself (hammer tips, damper felts, pedestal felts, everything but the electronics) and get a feel for the job before messing with his, but we're going to send the preamp and amp off to be rebuilt. I just have to get down there to dig the amp module up and remove the electronics and box them up, otherwise, it's a done deal. I just hate the fact that I can't consolidate my studio now. It would be inspiring to see it all in one room.
I thought I'd put a little love into the Wurlitzer and if I get down the line and decide I really don't like the sound I was wondering if I could do an even trade for a Clavi. I think having a Rhodes, Clavi and a Moog, my keyboard section would be complete. I have a feeling though that I might fall in love with the Wurlitzer though.
Voltor,
I would have thought the headphone output would be dirtier?

Re: Post your latest purchase!!
Exactly so. Which is why I use 2000 ohm headphones when privately playing it. The organ has no audio out jack. All it has is 1/4" headphone out. Eh, I'll keep playing around with my setup ASAP. If I can get the sound improved, you guys will be first to know. I'm thinking there needs to be some caps replaced or upgraded.EricK wrote: Voltor,

Re: Post your latest purchase!!
Voltor,
On some organs you can get a line level output via their volume pedal.
They're often wired between the audio of the organ and its amp(s.)
As far as Wurly's, I once worked out of the back of a music store in North Hollywood.
There were stacks of Wurly 200s no one wanted.... so they threw them out. (!)

I did buy the service manual for my organ. I will see how the pedal is wired, and add a jack if possible. Thanks for the tip!Kevin Lightner wrote:Voltor,

Latest purchase (well, I bought this a few months ago but finally finished the build. It's a TR-808 kick with all of the mods). On the far end of the board is a trigger input; next step, mounting it behind a 16 step gate sequencer that I'm building for it; liquid high hat PCB on order.
Knob (1 1/8th") put in the foreground to show how tiny this thing is.
