I just got my "Sonic Infinity" DVD/catalog in the mail from Moog and now I really NEED all the foogers! $650 for a delay pedal?!?!? Ummm, yes. Totally sounds worth it

I'd love to see a slightly "bare bones" monosynth like the Prodigy or Rogue. (Incidentally those are the only two Moogs I've played around with... I own a Rogue.) Maybe give it MIDI control and CV / Gate, so it can be used either with an old or new setup. Sell it for about $1000, and I'd buy it...

more speculation on the specifications from me
i've been looking at the rouge/prodigy/etc on archive, and i have come to a few conclusions. If this new product is a cheaper monosynth I think we can expect to see:
- 32 note keyboard (all but the multi and source have this, but they are more mid-range, with the soucre leaning towards high-end right?)
- 2 VCOs (only the micromoog has just 1) with sweepabel waveshapes (the micro, multi and the voyager all have this so i don't see why a new cheaper synth shouldn't) with sync and, fingers cross(modulat)ed, FM
- 1 moog filter
- 2 EGs (all seem to have two except maybe the rouge), i think one of them will definitely be ADSR
- 1 LFO
- 1 noise source (unless they do a prodigy on us)
- pitch/mod wheels

well i'm hoping for the cheaper synth, and i think i can speak for most of us poor people who want a new low cost moog
we just a real analog synth that sounds/looks/plays really cool as a moog should, we're not fussed about memory, touch pad, OS, LCD, full midi (personally i would like midi over basic note info but not all the nob positions e.t.c. i'd still get it if it didn't have any midi, as long as it had CV/gate I/O)
i was thinking, Bob (may he rest in peace) said that the prototype for the voyager would go for about $2000
if you took away 1 osc, 1 vcf, 1 vca and an octave of the keyboard, surely they could bring it down to the $1300-1600 range.

is that a picture of the voyager prototype?
i wonder if moog will have another name-the-synth contest or if they will come up with a name themselves. (that way they won't have to give away a whole synth to the winner this time around, thus saving some money). unless the prize is a t-shirt saying "my mom/dad/buddy etc named the ___moog, and all i got was this lousy t-shirt"
also, if it has the name moog on it, will it be a big deal in the uk again?
maybe they'll have a special uk name-the-synth contest.

That looks like the prototype to the best of my memory. I am not even sure if it worked. It might have been just a mock up. It was never played in the video that I saw.martin wrote:is that a picture of the voyager prototype?

That's the prototype "Performance Synthesizer" that became the Voyager. It was more than a mock-up. Bob was in the process of building the electronics but didn't finish it in time for the NAMM show (I saw it at the show and there were I/O jacks on the rear panel and a power socket). So he brought it along as a display to solicit input from visitors to the show.

would have been cool to have *that* board with a cheaper price tag and leave the touchpad and the funny operating system and the tiny green screen out, and make the pad a separate tabletop unit.
i think a tabletop touchpad would have been way easier to play imo. plus it may have cut the price of the board a bit, who knows, and may may have left room for proper jackage and knobbage.
i can't play the screen well on the hinged panel in the middle of all those knobs at all, and putting it flatter makes the knobs unergonomical. so i never really warmed to the built-in pad. shame cause it's a very expressive tool.
a tabletop touchpad could have been bigger so you'd be able to play it like a real ribbon controller, over a nice range, not too tightly packed.
what is cool about it though is the fact that you can play it with your nose.

what kind of I/O did the proto have?
was it the same as the voyager + vx 351?

The prototype didn't have the accessory port, and I/O were three MIDI jacks and at least fourteen 1/4 jacks, none of them labeled. I got a pic of the rear panel when I was at the show.
The prototype had pretty much all the architecture of the Voyager - dual filters with 12/24 dB switch, dual modulation busses (incl shaping), variable waveshaping, hard sync, VCO 3->1 FM. EGs were ADS with shared D/R like the model D, Bob got lots of requests for full ADSR. Based on feedback from the show, he added the TS, full patch storage, accessory port, a full featured OS, and brought back the hinged panel.
I was helping Dave Kean set up the Audities display the night before the show opened and we decided to peek at Bob's booth when we finished. Dave and his buddy headed towards the moogerfooger pedals, completely oblivious to the prototype keyboard. I headed straight for that. Bob was showing it to his booth workers, and when he saw me peeking over his shoulders he hid it back under the covers. I felt a bit embarassed over that but he laughed and said "Tomorrow you can see it".
