ps a mini phatty also ncie :)

That would be very cool. I love the foot print and knobby interface on my Minitaur. With full range, noise gen and less glitchy editor-firmware it would be perfect!

The new Sub is packing sooooo much. I hope the tag is less than $1500, can't wait to see how gorgeous it is. I still would prefer a module format though.

Yep, so basically we agree but he doesn't even mention EGs which seems strange to me.
BTW in my previous post I didn't even mention "polyphony", so I'm not really sure why you are sending this to me ??

YES SIR. RIGHT AWAY SIR !
Kenneth wrote:There is clearly visible in the oscillator section a "duo mode" swtich. This makes me think "duophonic". I'm not sure what else that could mean.
The main thing that indicates that it's duophonic (apart form it now being said loud and clear by Amos), are the words "KB CTRL", "LO" and "HI", they are the real telltale signs

Duo mode could be switch where osc 2 is set to free running or to some relation to osc 1 (3rd, 5th) as on the Microbrute I believe.

This synth look very interesting and if it's not too expensive, I'll probably be getting one, however I really think that indicating "Paraphonic" instead of "Duophonic" is a big mistake even though it's correct. I mean why don't they put that word on each and every synth, why this one ? I think it's misleading.

IMHO, the KB CTRL switch is likely applicable to the MONO MODE, and would change the note priority, allowing either just the lowest note or just the highest note to sound. In that case, this switch would have nothing to do with the duophonic nature of the machine. FWIW, I find the label "Paraphonic" quite clear in this context, which immediately calls to mind the quasi-polyphonic implementations that appeared in ARP 2600s and ARP Odys, as well as the various string machine offspring like the ARP Omni, Roland RS-505, etc.

This article seems pertinent:

About polyphony versus paraphony.

My Korg Mono/Poly is touted as "polyphonic" when it is clearly not with only a single filter, a single VCA and, even though it offers independent pitch control of each of its four oscillators.

It is therefore a paraphonic synth, much like the later Korg Poly800, which was also paraphonic. And since both of them offer more than two oscillators, they cannot be called Duophonic obviously.

But calling them Korg Mono/Para or Korg Para800 wouldn't have been winner marketing wise...

So, unless the new Sub 37 Tribute has more than 2 oscillators (notwithstanding de sub one) inside (I doubt it by the looks of the front panel graciously provided by Moog Music, thanks! :D ), it is technically a paraphonic, yes, but much more a Duophonic one with only two oscillators.

You could of course both (you and Kenneth) be correct, we won't know until we have a demo. I was just saying this because the Sonic Six is labelled this way too, and it's using this switches that you can select to play either 2 notes separately, with OSC 2 in drone mode or at an interval of OSC 1.

hehe, it's for that very same reason why I think it's misleading. I have a Roland VP-330 (which share the same string section as the RS-505, I think) which is paraphonic and it's very very different to playing the Sonic Six which is duophonic…. but yeah as Mark Doty pointed out, even mono phonics should be considered as paraphonic.

But in the end it's just a word, I'm really excited about this synth… :D :D

Sounds like were going to get two notes ala arp odyssey. Too bad its not the moog poly synth ala memorymoog that I think everyone here has been wanting for EVER!!! But...it still looks like it has a nice feature set with some unique things on it...looking forward to an online demo!

The New Waldorf Pulse 2 is also paraphonic.in this Case he have 4 or 8 voices, but when you play in this Mode you loose any control of osc2 and osc3

As a footnote the Korg ES-50 Lambda was both Polyphonic and Paraphonic....
Using the ensemble sounds you had an volume attack and release for every note played from three divide down oscillators (no real filter but a tone control). And the percussive section used one oscillator and whilst some sounds have a release control, the brass sound had a filtered attack that retriggered on every note regardless of how many other keys are being played.
The string sound with its three oscillators plus a true stereo chorus made the Lambda the most lush string synth ever.
My recording backbone to this day...

Eden...

I love the sound of those old string synths. it would be great if we got a resurgence of them with the pulse 2 out now and moog dabbling in that with this little beast.

next moog synth; sub stringer! 2 divide down vcos and sub oscillator for Full paraphonic capabilities. and a cluster flux built in
