I don't really know. "Don't Bring Me Down" was released as a single (off the "Discovery" LP) in August of 1979.

DDY used a Mini? I thought he was an ARP and Oberheim user. The Four-Voice came out months before "The Grand Illusion" was released, and was featured prominently.

Yes they used Minimoogs, Dennis confirmed it in a Keyboard mag interview. Dennis also said that the Four Voice was an excellent lead synthesizer and "Grand Illusion" was the first Styx album he used it on. Whether "Fooling Yourself" was the Four Voice or a Minimoog, man that's a close one I can get that sound on a Mini, a Voyager, or my A6 using the Oberheim filter. Definitely one of my favorite synth solos though.

I gotta start it off with the cut that actually got me into modulars when it was originally released... as it did for so many others... ELP "Lucky Man".
From that moment on, it was Emo for me. All albums through the late 70's I found unique things I enjoyed, and reversed engineered the patches on.

I gotta say, as a owner of a large modular myself, I was always in awe with Emo playing live, a challenge few dared to do, at least to that degree.
My favorite live stuff has to be from ELP's Live tour... in May of 1974, Memphis, TN. - "Tarkus".

I sat 4th row center so I could see everything Keith did, and snuck a cassette recorder in the concert. I got 5 sides on tape, and the Memphis performance struck me as being the best of the 1974 tour from all of the bootlegs & official recordings I've heard... including "Welcome Back My Friends".

It was definetly a night when Keith and Carl were at their best... Greg, however, was drinking sterno... again, and ended up repeating the same verse over and over during "The sheriff".

Back to the Tarkus performance... Aquatarkus was one of the most awe inspiring things I've witnessed as to playing a modular in a live setting. It's all in the presets, and the rehersals.
