The Source has a wimpy mod section. Here's why LP gets my cash:

# Sync sweep is controllable by filter EG.
# Variable-waveform "Voyager" oscillators!
# OSC2 -> Filter Cutoff mod! Audio rate FM - Love IT :)
# 100 Patch memories with NAMES
# MIDI
# Longevity & lack of Maintenance Issues
# Bob actually designed this one :D

There's actually a good deal of family resemblance in these views.

From behind though, it reminds me of a traditional English Roll-top bread-bin.

I like it. I was hoping I didn't (having just lashed out on a Voyager) but I do. It will do very well, and probably knock $500 off the value of everybody's Voyager, but mine's coming with me to the grave so I'm not too bothered.

It's a Moog, so distinctive, and will sound great so it really can't fail.

Well done Moog, should secure the future of the company for another good few years.

You can tell Hartmann's influence from the side panel layout to the Neuron. It's obvious the sound engine would be 'Bobs'. But I don't see Voyager's losing value only because it offers so much more in terms of sound creation and it's modular expandability. And this thing cost more than DSI's mono evolver keyboard :? And your gonna tell me the price point realized was in part due to component level support from Chinese partners? Give me a break peeps.

Why all the glowing and lights? I guess flashing lights sell synths. Like Korgs.

But surely they could have saved in the light deparment and spent a little more in the knob department.

Why do we need the LCD display anyway? I don't need to name my presets, and the synth only has one modulation routing.

This thing looks very German. Looks like a Waldorf or something. Very digital indeed.
Wish it looked more like a Moog.

I'm sure it sounds amazing though.

Would have been super cool if it had CV expansion.

I was priviledged to be involved in a small way in the design process of this synth and would just like to congratulate everyone at Moog. The first product a company releases after the founder dies has so much pressure on it commercially and emotionally and I think the LP has succeeded on every level. When I saw it at the NAMM show I almost cried it is so beautiful. It will introduce a whole new generation to analogue synthesis and is a true tribute to Bob. This isnt just a pared down Voyager there is a lot of new technology in there, technology that will lead to many new products from Moog for years to come. So congratulations you guys ....and Bob lives on ....

This Lph looks awesome !! Soundwise it's better to get a Voyager of course, but pure aestetically it looks as nice.
I can't wait to hear it and try it out somewhere...

Well done, MOOG team !!

Great!

I always liked The Source and here we have an "alpha dial" per section . . I only wish they had included dedicated cutoff and resonance knobs!

For me, already having a large moog collection this will fit right into the space that was left when I sold my model D last year . . glad to be excited about a new moog synth again, reminds me of 2001 and the wait for my Voyager.

Crappy design (renault mégane look + unhandy in/outs)

Disappointing specs

Fairly high priced for a 2 osc synth

... Nah ... I think I'll stick with my good ol' mini.

You have to look at this in context.

Anyone with an original mini (or similar) or a new Voyager is hardly going to look at this synth . . unless they have money to burn or they want a cheaper gigging synth (I used to take my Source out gigging but not my mini or Voyager).

It is what it is . . a smaller, cheaper new moog and for that reason I think it will sell very well. So long as it sounds like a moog the boys and girls (and Bob, god bless him) at moogmusic will have a success story.

Personally, I liked a lot of the moogs made after Bob left moog in the mid 70's and we all have to look farward now. I like the Voyager a lot but for me i want to see moog breath new life into the analog relm . . I don't want to see rehashes of yesteryear synths and I'm all for new sounds and functions even if it is a mix of analog and . . dare i say it . . digital.

If this new synth sounds like a moog and it becomes cheep enough to make a poly version then I will be top of the orders list . . add a 5 octave keyboard and another 7 voices and I think you would have a killer instrument . . we all have to move on and I think this looks exciting for everyone.

Not sure about the name though . . some black electrical tape over that for sure and i would have prefered the curved silver back to have been less "TOMY, my first synth" . . but hey ho.

One comment though... Have moog fixed the issues with portamento/filter and proper resonance keyboard tracking, or are we expected to get to shell out big $$ for expensive and cumbersome addon boxes for something that frankly should have been there in the first place? (Ooops, couldn't stop myself. sorry... :) )

Otherwise this synth seems great for what it's supposed to do. Very good design both aesthetically and functionally. I'm sure it will be a success.
Moog surely knows how to design beautiful instruments! :)

I'm not sure I care a rat's butt about the name. Wasn't crazy about Moogerfooger either. That went away after I heard a few of them. I want to hear one. If I like the sound, of course I'll consider buying one. :)

As for the design--I like the minimal front panel. There is less chance of grabbing the wrong knob in front of an audience. I always thought the Voyager front panel was just a little too "busy."
