It's a DIY effort from a Muffwiggler (Aleksei) in Belarus. Folks that want an analog Vocoder are sometimes not sure what they are asking for because it results in a pile of hardware, especially if a high number (16 or 24) bands.

But this bloke devised a Vocoder using THAT ICs which are accessible but not cheap, however you'll need 39 of them (!!!) and the panel/board set alone is going to run you another $250 plus shipping. If you look at each of the filter boards, you'll notice that they are PACKED with parts, so not an easy built but a very nice one.

ahh ok. yeah that sounds real nice. but i think i will start off with an Iron Lung or one of the korg synth/vocoders is i can find them super cheap

colorform2113, As someone who has owned a microkorg, R3, and Radias, I strongly recommend the EHX pedal. I now use the EHX V-256 with a Phatty as my carrier signal and it sounds lightyears better than anything I could ever get out of those digital korgs. I actually used my Voyager as the carrier signal when we recorded, and WOW. Moogs make the best carrier signal of anything I've tried so far, which also includes DSI tetra, prophet 08, and nord lead.

Just so this topic doesn't dies . . . does anyone else have any suggestions for an analog vocoder?

I like the sound of the PAiA vocoder kit, but it is an extreme robot sound.

MOOG PLEASE MAKE A NEW ANALOGUE VOCODER... PLEASE! I beg you!!! Lol I'd definitely purchase one. I'm desperate for a good quality analogue vocoder but you just can't find them easily anymore, and I can't afford the money they do go for when they pop up on eBay come on Moog, make us a nice rack mounted one!

Heh, you might find that a new Moog 16 band vocoder based on the Bode design will cost MORE than the $5k you'll pay for an old one.

In case no one has noticed Ray WIlson is prototyping Vocoder board (+ expansion daughterboard) right now over at MFOS. He is posting updates on his Facebook page, (not mentioned on his MFOS site yet at all).

I myself wouldn't place money on Moog Music releasing a Vocoder.

Just as speculative but thought I should mention: If the Jurgen Haible boards ever become publicly available again, once legal issues are settled, his vocoder project I would think would likely be part of that. Massive build though and who knows. Juergen left behind an awesome legacy of pcb assets that had gathered quite a following in the DIY community while he was alive.

I could see Moog doing a limited (but expandable) vocoder.

Make a 4ish band (or use a MuRF style chassis with the sliders!), have a frequency range selector (so you could buy 4 or more Foogers to make a full vocoder or one fooger to make a limited but cool vocoder) and have a chain in/out on the back for mixing them all together. I could see having a carrier oscillator in each Fooger like the Ringmod that could be chained as well for consistency (or not for fun experimentation!).

Technically you could probably buy 2 MF-101's (for filtering and envelope following) to make a 1-band vocoder, but that would get ridiculous to do multiple bands.

Technically, MF-101's would work in conjunction with MF-103's...but yeah, you'd need 15 rack spaces and three rack mount kits just for a fully functional vocoder...
