Lots of great ideas.
Not that I'm going to be the one to ever build such a creature though.

I think it would be neat to sequence patches.
Morphing between values also.

Like the Arp2500, there should be a bay of jacks that are also assignable.
These could be points used as inputs or outputs for interfacing or for amplification.

I suppose as long as we're daydreaming, one could have a modular for people that like jacks.
No buttons or LEDs, but patchcords defining only the routes for internal analog switches.
That way it would look and act very much like a normal modular from the outside, but be programmable inside.

That IS a good idea, though I like LED's. Patch cords and internal wiring...a hybrid, if you will. Similar to the Buchla 200e. :D

Pros: Don't have to buy patch cords, you have a modular system

Cons: Don't get to look like a mad scientist

I didn't see mention that the Buchla 210e module might be in some respects a variation of the concept being talked about -

More than a digital patchbay or virtual simulation it stores an attenuation amount of each input and, as with most Buchla 200e system parameters, can have all it's settings stored and recalled. Obviously this is far less than 99 busses and runs $1500 and is audibly quantitized at times when changing the levels, but it does in essence store patchcords and take the place of signal mixers

I guess with all these promising ideas it really depends on how usable it is, how close to perfection and at what cost.
