I am willing to spend 6000 euros for a polyphonic Moog that has:

1. Eight (8) voices of polyphony
2. 2 or 3 parts multitimbral
3. Stereo balanced outputs and 8 individual outputs for each of the voices
4. 3 oscillators per voice
5. 2 filters
6. 3 envelopes
7. 3 LFOs
8. 1 S&H
9. A nice modulation matrix
10. I would love to see polyphonic aftertouch
11. TONS of knobs, 61 keys
12. A nice LCD for patch management.
13. Wooden construction and high quality electronics
14. 2 Mod wheels and 1 pitch wheel.
15. An arpeggiator would be nice (but not necessary)
16. No FX
17. No Touchpad
18. No backlights

Oh yeah... mahogany please. 8)

I might buy one, but I prefer mono synths.

Although in other corners of this discussion forum, I've argued that Moog should concentrate on developing categorically new instruments, I'm going to contradict myself here. Following on the heels of the revival of the Tarus, I'd love to see Moog develop an updated Opus 3.

I saw a fella play an Opus 3 at a jazz jam in Austin TX during SXSW and it was really great. For most of the time, he was just getting basic poly/combo organ sounds out of the keyboard, but during his solos, he unleashed the modulation capabilities of the instrument and got some really wild sounds out of it.

With this in mind, I don't really have any major feature requests to add pertaining to the sound or playability of the instrument. As it was originally designed, it had plenty of great features to begin with.

However, to fit a revised Opus 3 into the family of modern Moog gear, I would request features that take advantage of CV inputs/outputs of gear like Moogerfoogers and the other synthesizers. To list a few that come to mind:
-CV outputs for gate, filter envelope, and LFO
-CV inputs for gate, volume, Filter sweep, and pitch (same as Lil' Phatty)
-MIDI inputs/outputs

I'd be happy to own an instrument like the Opus 3 implimented in a form similar in shape to the Lil' Phatty (3 octave keyboard with a few knobs controlling all the major features).

This is the best idea I've heard or seen so far! I think if it was priced like the Voyager, it would be a perfect fit with the rest of Moog's line up! :D

WHatever they make is going to HAVE to have at least 61 keys if I'm going to consider buying it, as Id personally prefer 73/88 but Id setle for 61.

Funny you should say that... I never liked keyboards with more than 61 keys.. Just a matter of preference of course.

In talking about features, it' might be premature to speculate about price right now. But with regards to how much I'd expect to pay for a reissue of the Opus 3, I'd hope that the price is kept closer to that of the Lil' Phatty. Repurposing the Lil' Phatty casing and adhering to the design philosophy of the Lil' Phatty's controls might be one way that costs may be kept down.

Ok...realistically speaking, an Opus 3 could be priced at around $2500 up to 3k. We ARE talking about a three voice synth with HUGE modulation capabilities, right?

they should finally release the Apollo. A divide down polysynth. The polymoog was way better than the opus/prophet/memory in my opinion. There is no better modern multiple voice polysynth than the Voyager X8/10/12/etc. But were looking for uniqueness, and no other synth company makes divide down synths anymore, and the ARP string ensemble and polymoog, and of course the Novachord beast were the best. These, as obselete as their technology is, are unique amazing instruments. If you were to have a poly voyager in one keyboard, it would deem the voyager as just a budget option, rather than the state of the art instrument it is, which is kinda sad.

The Polymoog failed as a great synth in my opinion. First off all, it had a limited range of sounds. Sure the sounds it could make were amazing, but they were few and far between. There was very little in the way of modulation. A single filter was responsible for the weak sound of the Polymoog. It needed more filters, more modulation, a smaller price tag, and better reliability. Build me a Polymoog like that, and I'll take one.

The minimoog had a limited range of (usable)sounds as well. In fact, I only use one very small window of sounds on my mini, not including modulation. I would rather have a small amount of very nice sounds than a large library of mediocre sounds. That's why I like the poly, and why i want one, probably the keyboard rather than the synth, because of its unique set of a few good sounds that are mostly usable. Hell I would pay $2000 just for the vox humana. Plus adding foogers to the mix really deepens the prospects, right? How about a preset synthesizer? I think that might be a good idea. A modern polymoog keyboard with infinite presets and very little sound shaping (except by librarian), to keep cost down. It would be a unique homage to synths of past.

They haven't put out anything in awhile. They must be working on a polysynth.

Thoughts?
