my latest purchase: the components for the Moog Ladder Filter :D i'm building a modular clone :)
Not a very close clone, is it? Where are the hand-matched transistor pairs? All I see are IC sockets.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8i_TqNc0TXU Pause between 3:08 and 3:10. This is how the Minimoog Ladder Filter was designed. The modular 904, also in the Taurus, was a little different. At any rate, you won't find a single IC in either circuit. :)
the transistors are in the ICs since they are CA3046 quad transistor array.. and there are three of them coupled in the center of the board

He said a "Modular clone". He didn't necessarily say a Moog 904A filter module clone. Nuance.
BTW FYI voltor07, in the original Moog Taurus there is a CA3080 performance operational transconductance amplifier in the output section of the ladder filter.
And there are more than a few, 40 years old ICs on the oscillator board in my Minimoog D but it sounds sweeeet. :wink:

@xombiexplox,

You've caught the disease pretty darn fast here. Keep up the good work before someone steps in and pulls an intervention.

First, he DID say Moog Ladder Filter clone. There may have been IC's in the Taurus filter, but they weren't used in the filter itself, just on the output. Of course there were IC's in the earlier Moogs, but not in the extent shown by muna93. :)

You did notice the 6 hand matched, glued together transistors in the middle of his ladder, didn't you ? What he will end up with, will be a cloned design of many Moog filters from the Norlin era: CA3046 at top and bottom, hand matched (sometimes not even that) transistors in the middle steps, and op amp buffers.

It certainly won't behave like a 904A, nor a Minimoog D filter, but it will be part of his Modular synth system and should sound great. Maybe his choice of the word "clone" was not exactly appropriate in this particular case... :wink:

Ah, yes...indeed! Thanks for clearing that up. So it's a Norlin Moog filter clone! Got it. :mrgreen:

Why stop now? You only need a Voyager and a few 'foogers to complete your collection. :D

Ohmygosh I wish! If I were to get one of those, it'd have to be sooner than I'd have enough cash for, I am moving overseas for a few years and I don't imagine getting one shipped would be pleasant :(

...but maybe if I happen to find a deal for one in the very near future!
