I totally agree, except... I remember this as the "early to mid '70s" idea of what future technology would look like.

That design style started in the 50s but was still popular through some of the 70s.
A good example would be the furniture designed by Eero Saarinen in the 50s.
I only know this because my wife is infatuated with this style of decor.

...which, by the way, Studio Electronics totally ripped off with their Orion synth. Were these ever produced and sold? I remember the news announcement a year or two ago, but I've never seen them for sale. Maybe they are special order.

:P see i knew what i meant. but yeah it probably was more popular in the late 60s thru the 70s

looks more like an iSynth, like 1st generation ipod stuff
