Stage version OS update is looking great; I think it's DONE. (yes the Stage is getting an update as well as the Tribute)

Tribute OS update is out with a handful of beta-testers today, being used abused and put through its paces. Cyril and I will be working tomorrow and Friday to test everything thoroughly, make sure all of the bugs are squished, and sign off on a final release version. I know I've been saying "soon" for a while now... but... it'll be *really* soon! Like, mighty darn soon. That's as precise as I can be until it's done. :)

Amos!

Why different OS for the Stage and the Tribute?

If I look at the pictures, the knobs and their alternatives are the same for both editions. So there shouldn't be any limitations for Tribute compared to Stage because of that. Or?

What's the difference between the OS in Stage vs Tribute, and why are they different?

I have stage on order and I presume that I will get it before this OS update is applied. Does this mean that the stage is not currently shipping with the sample and hold, noise, and autotuning features, or is this os update different?

thanks
Eric

Hey all,

The Stage is already shipping with sample & hold, noise, auto-tuning and all that good stuff. We wrote those features in time to ship with the Stage from the beginning. At that time, the Tribute OS was still at 1.02c or 1.02d. So, we had to write a version for the Tribute that had those new features. Additionally, we were able to include some minor bug-fixes and tweaks to the OS just to improve what it was already doing... so in the process of writing an update for the Tribute edition, it meant that we ended up with better code for the Stage as well. So this means that there is now an update for the Stage as well as the Tribute, but they will be the same OS, just compiled for the Stage or compiled for the Tribute. The two synths have different Device ID codes in Sysex, so that it "knows" it is a Stage or a Tribute.

I hope that clarifies the situation! :)

Thanks, Amos!

Does that mean that there will be no difference in functionality between Stage and Tribute?

"The two synths have different Device ID codes in Sysex, so that it "knows" it is a Stage or a Tribute. "

It sounds like the os is the same. The just did two different builds so that they could embed "stage" vs "tribute" as the device id.

The Stage's hardware has been upgraded with the addition of a second mod destination so presumably the OS will have some features that the TE cannot take advantage of (or respond to).

It's looking like Monday will be the day! :D (at last, right?)

I just remembered another reason why there are different OS builds for the Tribute and the Stage editions - when you do a "Factory Restore" on the Tribute Edition, you get the original Tribute patches reloaded from memory; on the Stage Edition, a factory restore will give you the Stage presets. This is coded into the firmware, so it necessitates a version for each.

OK, back to the testing...
