It's kinda' like when someone pronounces "timbre" the same
way you'd warn about falling trees, writes DB or Db as an
abbreviation for decibels, and HZ or hz for Hertz, or says

It doesn't necessarily mean that they're clueless about audio but,
at a minimum, it keeps me from automatically giving them the
benefit of the doubt.

There is no question about how Dr. Moog pronounced his name.
It only stands to reason that his products would be pronounced
the same way. And "Mooooger Foooooger" completely misses
the point of the pun.

But if someone wants to walk through an auto expo and tell
everyone they meet that they own a Chevrolet (with a hard "t"
at the end), what damage is it going to do? ...None at all.

....but you're far less likely to be asked to sit and have lunch
with a bunch of serious car enthusiasts

Am I excused for saying sometimes Mooog as a french speaking synth connaisseur?

The Mooger Fooger pun is -I believe- totally unknown here in France... Too bad.

Speaking primarily french myself, too, for many many years I was saying Moooog.

Even though I've learned, and now respect, Bob's way of pronouncing it, I'm still not used to calling some synths that "correct" way. It's still a bit strange for me to call a Memorymoog, a Memorymogue.

But, strangely, I got used to saying Minimogue instead of Minimoooog...

Maybe it's because I've heard it called the proper way more often than other models ?

So it should be:
Minimogue
Micromogue
Multimogue
Memorymogue
Mogue modular
Mogue Voyager
Moguer foguer

Comme to think of it, maybe the name The Rogue for that synth was a subtle attempt at teaching the right way of saying the company's name perhaps ?

From a selfish perspective, it was a sad day for me when I learned the correct pronunciation- I'd gone years dreaming of a Mooog, not a Mogue, and then after picking up an MG-1, then a Prodigy, I went a few more years delighting in HAVING a Moooog, not a Mogue- and since I was pretty much the only guy in this area that used them, folks that would come out to shows regularly would complement the sound of my Mooog, not Mogue- One guy that still is a fixture out there has a regular habit of getting sloshed and yelling "PLAY THAT MOOG"! (not MOGUE)- I can imagine the crickets if I got on the mic and corrected him
So changing my pronunciation was almost like losing a bit of ME (yes, selfish perspective)- I connect Mooog with my OWN past, not Mogue- Too bad for me eh?

I can at least feel better admitting I have never used the term "notch pass" until this very sentence.

I have had a few defective synths, under my care, that were displaying the behavior of a Not-Pass filter...

I deeply can feel that, and am glad to see this is not about being a noob -nor nobe- .

I don't know ANYONE who pronounces Moog at all. I just say it to myself

Hint to retail: If the customer completely screws up pronouncing 'Moog' or 'Doepfer' or 'Cwejman', don't laugh at them. You just lost a sale.

My band in the 70's was backing up REO, and we got into this exact argument. I said Mow 'g and they said, "NO!!! It's not a Mow'g, it's a Muuuuu'g"! That became a phrase our roadies would in fun repeat over and over and.... Well that's life on the road. I actually called the plant in NY, after hours, and Bob Moog himself answered. "hello this is Bob". I said, "Mr Mow'g?" he repeated his last name just as I said it. But as others have told here, that might have been Mrs Moogs doing. I cherish 2 personal letters I got from Bob MOog. Oh by the way, he took my order for one MiniMoog because none of the stores stocked them where I lived then.
