Hey, Derek- I just recognized you from Korg Forums (owning a Kronos, as well). I, too, have an OG Kronos 88 and a Muse. Cheers! To me, the Muse is nigh near perfect in what I what it to do. Supposedly, Moog will allow the Diffuse Delay effect to be modulated in a future firmware update. Fingers crossed!

Hi.

Not sure who you are as you are only showing as a Guest (some of my posts have has well as you do not need to be logged in, and I did not realise that).

Yes, it is indeed I from Korg Forums (shame it is down). I still have my 2014 Kronos X61 as my second tier board in my main two keyboard rig (Montage M7 on the bottom), and I think the Kronos still sounds amazing and holds its own really well. AL-1 still remains one of my favourite virtual analogs.

I read in Gordon Reid's Sound on Sound review on the Muse that there were potential updates to the diffusion delay to add modulation which would be amazing.

I must confess I prefer my synths to have effects built in, so was wondering how well I could cope with the Muse just having a delay, but so far, so good, and being able to modulate the diffusion delay would be the icing on the cake.

Hey, Derek-

My lack of action went one step further than yours, though; I wasn’t even registered lol, but I fixed that, as you can see. Yeah, a shame regarding Korg Forums, as well. I absolutely love that site.
When I built my studio, every peice of gear was carefully chosen- and the Kronos, yes, is still an amazing instrument.

The good news is that Korg Forums is now back, albeit some people, myself included are having login in problems in that my old credentials are not recognised.

Thankful the site’s back, but super slow. Hey, Kronos 3 is coming, too, with modest updates.

Yeah, I noticed the site is slow. Probably running on a Pentium or something, but good that it is back, although I still cannot log in

I might do a temporary registration, so I can PM one of the MODs to get my account restored

I was really surprised to a new Kronos as I had ruled it out ever coming back. I am really pleased it is fully compatible and retains the control surface and Karma, and it launches with aftertouch. Lack of those three on the Nautilus were deal breakers for me.

But there is nothing in the new package that would drastically improve on my current 2014 model other than boot time (which never bothers me as I know why it is slow and the advantage it gives). So for now I am happy in the knowledge that if my 2014 Kronos starts getting flaky I have a new model to move to.

But so far there is nothing I have heard that is making me reach for the credit card (just as well after having purchased the Muse and PolyBrute 12 last year!). If they start adding new sound engines like Wavestate, Modwave, etc. that would do it for me!

I’m off from work today; ‘just’ focusing on music tech stuff in research only, but yeah, I went back to Korg Forums multiple times and it’s a ‘bit’ better. I’m not complaining! It’s better for something than nothing, for sure. I’m again, very grateful for (and love) that site for what Sharp and (in the past) Daz have accomplished!

BTW-

I can’t afford what I just had done for the studio, or the $$$, but I just pulled the plug on the 3 since my last post to you on credit. If anything ever happened to my OG Kronos, I’d cry, with nothing to me that comparibly replaces it. To me, nothing compares, overall.

I agree with the Kronos being unique. I guess I will probably upgrade to the K3 at some point, but with the current feature set being identical there is no rush, so will probably wait a year to see what happens on pricing. Whereas when the Montage M came out with the AN-X engine added to it, I HAD to upgrade!

Well. . . long story short, financing fell through, and the K3 is a no-go. How’s your K1 doing? Anything regarding past issues that some were having? Mine has a calibration problem that is slightly off that the global edit and deeper diagnostics test isn’t fixing. I wonder if re-installing everything would fix it, or is it a hardware problem? I sent Korg an email, and am waiting for a reply. You have some nice bits of kits, too. I LOVE the Muse. I also have the Voyager, Matriarch, Sound Studio, and Minitaur. I just love the Moog sound.

Hi,

Sorry to hear you are not getting your K3 - hopefully there is a "yet" in that somewhere!

My Kronos X61 is to the best of my knowledge performing flawlessly (famous last words). It is well looked after, and hasn't had a hard life when it is gigged, and is always moved in its flight case. The only thing I have had to do so far is a battery swap, and also the fan was getting a little noisy, so that had a squirt of WD-40 when I was doing the battery change, and it's as quiet as a mouse again!

That is a lot of Moogs you have! This is my first one and really pleased with it, albeit playing with it/programming it is taking a bit of a back seat whilst I am recording some old songs (and for now sticking with what I originally used).

Yes I am really pleased with what I have, which I have hopefully carefully chosen over time so they all complement each other.
  • The best from Yamaha/Korg for Workstation/Performance Sample and Synthesis / Multi engine keyboards as really versatile workhorses .
  • The best hybrid analogs in the Prophet X and Summit, coupled with the all digital Hydrasynth Deluxe (my first keyboard with Polyphonic aftertouch and that four octave ribbon!)
  • The best full poly analogs in the Muse and Polybrute 12
  • And that's before I get to the VSTs!
I am lucky in that whilst i have a high pressure job, it does pay well, and with mortgage now paid off and daughter out from the house in her own, we can indulge ourselves!

Wow, good for you!

I’ve got all I need to upgrade my Kronos to current generation, but am holding off. K3 is still on my radar, and will probably have the resources to acquire it down the road, most definitely.

I do massive amounts of exhaust research on what I want, so I don’t spend money on things I don’t really need- and I know my equipment well so that they will give me the results I’m looking for. For your benefit from what I’ve learned when researching the Muse, it‘s really nearly perfect from most angles when it comes to many things as an analog poly synth, and it’s like it comes with Moogs’ best of the best circuit designs. It sounds ‘Moogy’, but can also sound a bit like an Oberheim, a Prophet, a Roland, and it even gives CS-80’ish vibes, etc. A great kind of all-arounder. I understand that’s a blanket statement that’s preferential, but to me it is so good in so many ways. Weight, size, cost, layout, beauty, breadth of sounds, bi-timbrality, the arpeggiation, the stereo possibilities, etc. The modulation possibilities act like a modular. I’m totally fine with the diffusion-delay, as it’s an instrument unto itself. I could go on and on, because that’s just start!

Please let me know as you’re able to dig deeper into the Muse how you feel about this instrument!

Lol! All imho, of course.

I'm like you in that I do careful research, so I sell very little on because I am rarely disappointed. Tings come and go normally due to space reasons or I find something new that can cover what I have.

I sold my Montage to part fund the Montage M acquisition, along with selling a Wavestate MK1 (3 octave) as whilst I love the engine I never liked the form factor; 3 octave and no aftertouch is a criminal offence in my book for such a device! Therefore I was always playing it from another keyboard.

So when Korg brought a VST version, that scratches the Wavestate itch for me.

I have my SY99 for sale as I had to make room for the new toys, and I was not using it much given I have a TG77 for the classic SY77 sound, and if I want "clean FM" (the real sonic benefit of the SY99 over the SY77) then I have FM-X and MOD-7 amongst other FM sources.

So if something comes into my studio nothing has ever gone out because I made the wrong choice. They've all had theior place until something else came along that I have had to make room for.

The real indulgence last year was getting the Polybrute 12 and the Muse, mostly driven by the fact that for my milestone birthday the Muse was out of supply in the UK, so I went for the Polybrute, but still intended to get the Muse as I had always promised myself a Moog at some point and it was about time! And I thought I could make a choice to sell one on if they both covered too much common ground. So whilst extravagant, I am keeping both as really like both and feel they are quite different. Albeit I have seen a video purporting to be a sonic comparison between the Polybrute and the Muse, but they 'fess up at the end that it is all Polybrute - itself a chameleon!

So right now I am a happy Muse owner.

You seem to have a well-rounded collection and approach, too. Yeah, I saw that (chameleon) video, and was it a wow moment. It goes to show you to learn your instruments before pre-judging, hence why I did so much research discovering what I really wanted before buying.

For me, still having a Korg MS-20M, Korg Triton Extreme, Korg MicroKorg 1&2, Expressive E Osmose, Access Virus TI2, Novation BassStation 2, and Spectrasonics Omnisphere 2 (along with Trillian) to add covers enough for me. I can’t afford anymore.

Just to show you my sound palate.

Let me tell you to look at the Moog Matriarch, though, because it’s really a beast; and oh, it has tone galore. That’s one reason I got the Minitaur, too. It’s got some of the best bass and outstanding tone I’ve heard.

Please check this out; I can’t get enough of this one quick multi-tracked mini-song of the Minataur 9 years ago!:

What kind of music do you make?

Hello again, had some problems login in here and finally got in today so catching up a bit.

Yes, I also do a lot of research before taking the plunge and think I have some of the best synths around now. I was nicely surprised to hear there is a Kronos 3 and maybe might want another at some point just so I can load all my samples! However, all though excited by the news, was disappointed they didn’t put more ram in the 3rd one. It’s still such a fantastic workstation. Still like the wavestate but have to play it through midi on my iridium keyboard as the wavestate keybed is so plastic and awful, like a kids toy.

Getting some very interesting sounds now on the muse…lots of exploring still, so very different to my prophet 6 and REV2.
Still having some issues with the muse though so it’s disrupting my flow rather a lot. I will keep listing things on my possible listing to see if anyone else is having the same.

Sorry you’re having trouble with logging in. A bit of a pita.

Kronos 3 (hard to call it that), but, they did bring it back (and with important, though modest) improvements. It’s a re-hash, and I mean that in a good way. Glad to have a replacement if needed! Who’s exhausted all of the possibilities with it, anyway, the way I see it. It’s a fantastic piece of kit! I’m so glad they brought it back, and don’t count on, but won’t rule out any additional improvements in the future.

Is there a synth or sound source you’d really like to either enhance, or ‘complete’ your sound signature?
