Ha, Tomita... my roommate brought home Tomita's Pictures at an Exhibition a while back. First time I'd really listened to one of his records. I thought ELP's version of that piece was crazy, but... Jesus.
So anyway, as I revive this dead thread yet again... I play in a kind of jam-band-style group that combines elements of rock, funk, reggae, improvisational jams, etc. I play my synths in real-time and do my programming on the fly, with no sequencers or memory or anything. We did, however, write a techno-ish dance tune just as a gag ("Let's Go Canoe!," it's on our myspace, link below), but it became our favorite song to play at shows.
