Thanks for clarifying the EL as opposed to CLF/LED backlight technology- that makes sense.

I'm not sure if it is at the end of its useful life as when the backlight does light up it is still quite strong and dims on and off as would be expected. My understanding is that the EL panel will eventually fade 50% after 10,000hrs of use. Unless the behavior being exhibited is the normal sign of end of EL life.

I have noticed that the back panel behind the inverter is warm/hot to touch after being switched on for a while. Could be normal as this is right next to the power plug.

I may be running out of options and have to get a tech to look at it.

Have you tried contacting Moog? They are one of the most helpful companies anywhere.

Not yet Stephen, but I've messaged the Aust. service centre. They are the other side of the country so I'd like to avoid having to send it away. There are techs locally who could have a look.

Cheers

I'm just thinking out loud that Moog might be able to help you troubleshoot the problem. They have done so for me, specifically by identifying certain IC's that might need replacing. They were correct. :)

Happy ending. I ordered a new inverter, installed it and the backlights are working again.
