I use this to play live weekly with the band, I've used 2 controllers - Maudio axiom 49 (2nd gen) and Casio Privia PX-350. The axiom needed an external power supply (I just bought a powered USB hub for 29 bucks, it supplied plenty of power for the keyboard), and the Privia is powered. So your controller may need an external power supply if it's typically powered by USB, the camera kit doesn't have enough power. Other than that, both work just fine as controllers for animoog.
