It actually was my first intention to store it in the overhead with the soft bag...
I know it all depends who is working that day at the airport, on the plane...

But if you were able to store it in the overhead on MULTIPLE flights, I don't see why I shouldn't be able to...

But I've also been on flights where those overheads are packed and the idea of me with my huge synth walking onto that plane feels a bit uncomfortable... hehehe

But maybe it'll be fine and I'm persuing a sidetrack...whereas I SHOULD be spending this same money not on a hard-case but on a MURF!!! hahaha!!

Storing a heavy synth in the overhead locker probably wont be allowed. You've got to get past security (the bit where I always set off the alarms and spark a security alert ) While at that part, how would it cope with the x-ray machine?

I was watching this program once, where a man managed to get his vintage violin onto a plane, but in the end the forced him to stick it into the hold.

Its been so long since I last been on a plane, I'n not entirely convinved it could fit in the overhead locker.

Yeah, I suppose it depends on the plane. Is there a standard size of overhead lockers on all commercial planes? I doubt it, come to think of it. The Devil is always in those little details, isn't he!!!

Most likely I will be taking more trips like this, so I should probably invest in a long term solution so I don't have to worry about this again. I'll just make sure that that lovely logo is covered up.

Sounds like the Molded case is a dicey choice. Even though the Aluminum case is heavy and expensive, it's probably the best one to get, hands down. I'll be able to get it on any flight ,though I may have to pay a little extra...won't have to worry about it getting smashed to bits... I can spring for the Alum case, but man I'm cuttin some corners elsewhere...jeez!

BUT, its to protect my baby so I can do what I love with the people I love and that makes it totally worth it.

I just spent the dough and got the mega-momma Aluminum EXTRUDED hard flight case for la Voy... this think IS built like a tank!

I think if this got run over by a car it'd still keep the Voyager pretty safe.

I don't think I would be brave enough to take any of my synths with me on a plane - I'd bleep myself!

The molded case is perfect -- protected my voyager from North Carolina to England, across four trains and back. Checked it every time. Worked perfectly and has wheels -- meaning you can strap any other luggage around the pull-out handle and you have an instant luggage cart. If you're traveling, 25 pounds makes a lot of difference -- and the heavier case looks nicer -- meaning it attracts more eyes (bad).

Go with the SKB -- from experience, it works fine.

Yep.

The temperature in the cargo hold changes very quickly, and it is unventilated, to prevent fire risk.

I have noticed that some airlines have no restrictions on the maximum weight you can bring with you on the plane. The only restriction is that you must be able to lift it without assistance.

I saw a programme a while ago where a man tried to take a vintage instrument on a plane, but was told he had to check it in as hold baggage, he said the moisture would kill it, so he tried to take it with him anyway. He got away with it.

Problem with synths is that they're so large and heavy!

You know I wouldn't trust those baggage handlers with anything now. I hear horror stories of vandalism and stuff being thrown around. I'd want my baby right next to me So how come you're not as blue today? I love your curves baby. LOL

There was an advert here once, showing baggage handlers throwing and dropping cases. How do they sleep at night? Cup of Horlicks!

I got back from Italy last week, and after waiting for almost an hour at the carousel for the cases to come, they came up on a slope, and dropped about 3 feet onto the belt, making huge crashing noises. I thought my cheap cigarettes would get crushed. And I was right! Though one pack out of 60 isn't bad!

I know flight cases are tough, but I would like to see someone drop one from a height, with a synth in it, to see if it does get damaged.

I'd put a tracking device in the synth, in case the bastards nick it!
