Now I understand why Marc Doty reacted like this on that video
Great, great job, you Moogies!
Now, would you please put this in a neat box with some pots and switches?
Oh, to the Blofeld users on this board: Did you also think it sounds like Waldorf had their fingers in Animoog?

Re: Animoog
I'm blown away by this apps and its expressiveness, really makes the touchscreen sing.
Anyway, I was trying to sequence it using Logic via CoreMidi (wifi) and so far I've gotten Animoog to recieve MIDI notes but not send them or record any kind of MIDI information in my sequencer. Specs say that MIDI in/out is supported so I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Any tips on this?

Re: Animoog
---I have a lot of great synth apps and this one ranks very highly in my mind! I midi'd mine up to my iPad 2 (5.0) using my Midi Mobillizer 2 and it works great! I still don't understand how and why such great synths are being sold so cheaply but I'm happy if the manufacturers are!
Great app and sounds super, I cut my teeth programming a MiniMoog many years ago so I can't wait to dig into this. I hope there will be a sound sharing site available to us Moogies....

Re: Animoog
Wow, this is a real serious iPad instrument. I think it will keep me way more playing it then all those other musical apps.
Thanks for the nice introduction price.

Re: Animoog
Some of you have been using Animoog for some hours now.
Do you think it is worth to buy an iPad + Animoog (+ a possible IO Dock?...) just as a polyphonic VA synth, rather than a Nord Lead 2X for example?...

I love this app. and it's well worth looking at as a standalone type synth but there are a lot of other great synth apps too so first I'd check with compatability with the i/o dock (it should work but might not) or if you don't already have one get the iRig midi or the Midi Mobillizer interface. This just came out and they've already loaded it with great very tweakable sounds...too great for words!!
Re: Animoog
This depends on the style of music and the way you do music.stiiiiiiive wrote:Some of you have been using Animoog for some hours now.

If you are into morphing sounds you will like Animoog for sure. Nice analog like sounds. Even rather digital sounding wavetable like sounds are possible.
If you would rather use the traditional named and arranged parameters of a VA synth, then the Nord Lead is maybe better for you. Maybe.
But you have to consider buying a keyboard for the Animoog. And the Animoog is 4 voice polyphonic. But with the same hardware you could also buy some other iPad synth, sampler or drum machine apps for a hand full of dollars.
I think the Prophet VS style of sound design by the power of 2 and combined with the Filatron filter, delay and distortion would be one way of describing the Animoog. But I think well just started to explore this new synth.

Re: Animoog
Animoog + Ipad + iDock + Keyboard Controller... maybe, depends on your preference. You can't play very fast on the ipad screen.stiiiiiiive wrote:Some of you have been using Animoog for some hours now.

But the on-screen controls are very expressive.
I personally like hardware synths (keys and knobs, yeah!), but sonically this one is at least on par with most other VA synths. The Nords are very good, of course. Why don't you check if someone has a used iPad? That may be the cheapest way of checking, and you can sell it for the same price if you don't like it.

Animoog is only 4 - voice polyphonic, which is something you might add to your considerations. That means you can not play a 7th chord and a bass tone.
Soundwise - It sounds top notch, very much like a moog VA. Maybe because it is.

Talking of VA, can anyone confirm if Animoog is sample based?
Re: Animoog
The TIMBREs are samples for sure. But these are not used the way samples are played back on other instruments. These 8 samples are crossfaded according the movement in the main grid. You can draw a main path and add some movement left and right to the PATH with the ORBIT. And on top of it is the Moog filter and the modulations. So it is neither a sampler, nor a VA. It is something unique.Barely wrote:... Talking of VA, can anyone confirm if Animoog is sample based?

Re: Animoog
Beautifully expressive and somehow pure sounding. Clearly digital, yet almost naturally analogue. Fun to edit.

Re: Animoog
Thanks Till, thanks Barely
I do prefer hardware instruments as well and already have a LP and a G2 in the synh department, hence having some control keyboards to play with.
I've been wondering if the immediacy of the Lord Lead interface would suit me better than the G2's for a year or so. The LP interface somewhat confirmed that hehe.
The idea of a polyphonic synth was making me smile, that's why I'm asking. I was aiming at a refurbished iPad. But to be honest, 4 voices are under my expectations ; I guess 8 is my threshold. Anyway a friend of mine has an iPad so I'll be able to check Animoog out someday.

Wonderfully expressive synth, great job.
I'm trying to sequence it via core midi (wifi) but I only can get midi messages in and cannot record it in Logic directly, even though it says it supports midi out. Anyone had luck with this?

Just did this, within 30-60 minutes of noodling with it. This app is killer.

Re: Animoog
I was tempted to get the iElectribe app but I don't have an iPad (my wife bought one for the 3 yr. old to watch movies on, however).
In the words of Marc "GREAT!" (sarcasm implied). So I downloaded it and absolutely drove my wife up the wall while she gave my daughter a bath this evening.
Very very impressive guys. The fact that the keyboard can be laid out according to self-selected scale means that anybody can be musical. There was a crazy app on the iPhone called Bebot that Jordan Rudess took a pining to and it did something similar and it's a brilliant concept. Brings more and more music to the masses.
If you watched MoogMovie, you'll recall the scene where Bob and Herb were sitting in a Piano showroom, likely somewhere in Hempstead, L.I. and talking about how the interface for Moog synths were not necessarily (originally) meant to be a piano/organ style keyboard; he felt that it bounded the performer in some unnatural way. Fast forward to the custom scales on the LP update and now this ... Bob must be smiling.
